Idiots spreading their pseudo-understanding of medicine, evolution/adaptation, and bacteria.

I linked a scholarly paper for the sole purpose of shutting up fucktards like you. I posted the abstract, and link the whole paper. Instead of running your mouth, give reading a try for a change :^S

For the morons out there, The paper was basically saying that bugs that develop a resistance to triclosan (anti-bacterial agent) are also typically the same ones that are resistant (or can easily develop resistance) to ciprofloxacin (quinolone antibiotic).

Which is a laughably far cry from a co-resistance to two completely different treatments developing from the same mutation. It means that the ones that mutated in the past to develop a resistance have a tendency to mutate/develop resistances or do so faster... perfectly logical. Should we go ahead and let these ciprofloxacin resistant bacteria sit on our hands and kitchen utensils and continue infecting us in the name of not letting them develop a resistance to a product that *isn't* used in our body or should we continue letting them infect people only to be treated by last-line-of-defense antibiotics and let them develop a resistance to that first? Get a grip on REALITY.

you sound like a bona fide germaphobe.
Nope. I'm a guy who gets boils and pustules all over his body with or without, but noticeably less with. That said, I don't use dish soap to clean up after raw meat possibly tainted with the dangerous form of e-coli. Whoever said "* Antibacterial soaps offer no protection against the most common germs, since they are caused by virus and not bacteria" is a complete idiot. Even if it were true (it's not), it's the VARIETY that matters most anyway... not the "population."

If you're so concerned about bacteria, use something that kill shit dead and doesn't gain resistance. alcohol, bleach, hey, plain soap is pretty effective too.

Do you eat off forks at restaurants that don't use anti-bacterial soap? touch anything on earth?
I fail to see how washing your hands and forks with antibacterial stuff is effective, unless you live in a bubble.

I think we should save it for stuff where it matters.. like surgeons washing up, you know, where the bacteria in the immediate vicinity is an actual issue.
And then even if you do somehow live in a bubble, your whole family is going to die of a cold when someone leaves the house and returns, with your weakened immune systems.

WTF are you going to douse your person in once everything is resistant to triclosan? I bet you'll really never leave the house then.

As for the OP, I'm surprised how many metros there are on AT.

That's just it... they HAVE stuff saved for those purposes.

Oh! And I do use alcohol, bleach, etc... I just don't bathe in it.

you probably get cystic acne, boils, because you've fudged up your immune system with all the antibacterial usage.

Ugh. My formative years were long before antibacterial liquid body washes were at K-Mart and Walmart. I lived in a dirty trailer and had plenty of exposure. Most of that advice has to do with forming a proper immune response to allergies, not the ability to fight of viruses and bacteria. Immune systems need that exposure at an EXTREMELY young age. It's why some doctors say NOT to get rid of the family dog for a newborn baby's household (despite it being contrary to common advice). Even so, don't blame something I wasn't even aware of when I was under a year old in 1980.

My usage of antibacterial soaps started in the last 9 years when liquid body washes started replacing bar soap everywhere. I didn't pay attention when it was just Soft Soap liquid handsoap dispensers before that because I didn't wash my face and such regularly outside of showering.

If I had some antibiotics and cleaned my bedsheets more often it might help with the cysts on my back, but they never seemed to have an effect on the ones deep under my scalp.

Do I still sound like a germophobe? I think I sound down-right nasty.

Loofa+Body Wash is so much better... rubbing off all those dead skin cells leaves my skin so soft and smooth. Bar soap always dries it out.

St. Ives Swiss Vanilla ftmfw! I've found that women love the scent of this one and it leaves the skin moisturized *

Gay "Men's" bodywashes that DON'T really attract any women ftl

* For some real fun... Use the St. Ive's Swiss Vanilla Body wash, then rub cocoa butter all over one half of your body. Get some banana flavored lube and call yourself a banana split!

So you're gay but won't use "Gay Men's bodywashes"?

I use both. Just depends on how much time I have to spend in the shower.

I use body wash, because Ironhead said so.

Every once in a while I buy a bar of Grandpa's Wonder pine tar soap and use it for all my shampooing and body cleansing needs, though - I just like to change things up periodically.

Body Wash and a scrubby thingy for me. Im actually quite fond of the fruit smelling ones over the smells of bar soaps. Bar soaps sometimes remind me of framildrahide which creeps me out.

I gave a poof + body wash a try (and will until the body wash runs out), but I think I prefer soap.

Once you try body wash with a nylon poof you won't want to go back to bar soap and washcloth. Just a better experience.

I normally use bar soap but my girlfriend has introduced me to the loofah. I quite like it now so I switch off depending on if I want a really fast shower or a more thorough one.
