SoB: New Membership Drive

Hey I have an idea to promote new users to SoB

I would like to make a FT post over in the FS/FT forum offering AMD XP or Intel P4 case stickers in trade for signing up and running SoB on their machines for a pre-determinced MINIMUM amount of time. In trade I will provide a case sticker of their choice.

I am planning on buying 75 AMD XP and 25 P4 case stickers for this purpose.

I think I would need assistance in tracking this, so I was wondering if someone might be interested, or if you think this idea just blows

Confused and I were talking about something simalar. Only it would be a race with goodies handed out to the winners. But I have not heard anything on it for some time now, and sold the motherboard and DVD I was going to give.

Most likely knocked off because I wanted a race,... but could not be the race leader due to time constraints.
(We were thinking a 60 day performance class race simalar to the one we had before the TNT race.)

Anyhow, you have my vote for a recruitment type of thing.

Maybe we could offer up something to the newest recruit with the most processing done at the end of the "MINIMUM" amount of time.... so in other words something for trying, the case sticker, and a prize for winning.

I've already ordered the case stickers (yeah premature, but hey )

I'm thinking a minimum of a month would be ideal.... the only thing I see as a headache would be how to handle the grand prize. Maybe that would just be a little longer out to allow the new folks to get things setup and going... so one month for recruiting, and then the following month for counts (performance) toward the grand prize.

I think it would be important that the new recruits register at SoB with the SAME email addy that they are registered at AT with, and that their email is displayed in their profile.

I of course would handle the recruitment, and would need maybe one other person to assist with this. I will also need to become an AT subscriber, as the 100 pm limit would hurt this. Been meaning to do this anyway.

Someone else, Confused maybe, would need to handle the second half of the contest.... the keeper of stats per se.

As for the Grand Prize, maybe we can take donations from the existing membership and hold a fund for their choice of an ASUS nFORCE2 AMD or P4 Deluxe board. I would donate $10 towards that.

Well I think something should be done to bring some new members in since we have been stagnant recently. We need some new blood and this sounds like about as good an idea as any.

I've got some stuff I could throw in as prizes... I could spare a 20gb drive (and more smaller ones), 32x/? cdrw, various modem/nic/soundcards
I've also got an A7N8X sitting in my room waiting for a new bios (horrible asus tech support)
You guys could buy it off me for cheap and use it as a prize. Otherwise I'll just sell it whenever they send me a new bios chip.

I was sort of thinking cash (paypal) donations to buy something the winner would like, and the ASUS nForce boards are certainly the cream of the crop at the moment. Something new, not used stuff. Of course I could be wrong here... I am mostly concerned about appeal, something that would serve our long term goal.... new members who will become long term members addicted to SoB

Please understand that I am not crapping your idea... just inputting my thoughts, others might not agree with me However a fully tested board would make for goodness too, just depends on how you look at it.

What do others think???

Yeah, SinfulWeeper and myself were talking about it a little (well, long ) while back, but we never got too far with it, unfortunately. I will be willing to help with the stats for a member race, just need to edit the stats script a little bit in order to add a couple of little features

Maybe have 1 or 2 big prizes (motherboards or good heatsinks) with a drawing. Number of entries determined by number of completed units (or whatever SOB uses) with a minimum required to get entered. That way, everyone has a chance. Only can win 1 prize per person. Plus stickers...lotsa stickers!!

Well, I may be moving my SoB account here to TA very soon (along with my ECC2, UD, FightAids, TSC, Folding2, Dist. Folding, and maybe even BOINC accounts), so let me say right up front that if I do that, I want to let it be known that I would demand myself being disqualified for any type or prize, because I'll refuse it! My intentions are otherwise. My SETI account is here already, as of a few days ago, but I have been pondering full movement of all accounts. And if I do move all of them, like I said, it is for reasons of my own, and not to try to win any kind of prize.

I understand that some people might want new stuff, I just figure a board is a board. And knowing a board is in working order beforehand is a plus in my book. envision the guy that wins a new board having rma it

I am also in agreement of Phoenix2. While I wouldn't mind a little something, my primary goal is to give.
