they were showing stuff at 10 am on sunday on NBCSN
it was curling IIRC and i was annoyed because the EPL was not on as it normally is

I don't have cable.

USA and, I'm guessing that channel you are talking about, were the only two that were showing stuff in the mornings--I was hoping to watch some morning curling, as they used to show that at those times, but it was only on cable. Granted, I think that is how they have always shown curling, but whatever. at least show delayed games at 9am or so

Really annoying to see that reporter try to beat Bode Miller down to see him cry. Geez, asshole, leave the guy alone.
I hate the fact that announcers go up to a competitor immediately after any competition in any sport (nfl, mlb, etc) and start to ask them these type of questions before they can even let the moment sink in. I also think the fan outrage from said comments (sherman from seahawks for example) is equally retarded.

Seriously. It was obvious what he was feeling and thinking about (his dead brother). Way to go for the tears and ask "you looked to the sky right before you started, what were you thinking about?"

I also was pretty disgusted when they were talking about his dead brother, Miller was squatting on the ground, head in chest, while the camera guy also crouched down and zoomed in on his face. Just leave the guy alone. All he wanted was his baby brother to be there to see him.

I'm actually hoping that some future medal winners decline interviews with NBC because of that.

A wonderful rainy day on the slopes of Sochi, just as it should be for mens snowboard cross and women's giant slalom. Perfect, rainy conditions for those kind of events. Way to go, IOC.

A friend told me the IOC voted three times on the location of the 2014 games, until they got the choice they wanted.

It is a bronze in Mens Figure Skating. The skater went from 11th in 2010, to well bronze this year. I think he gets the equivalent of $70-80k for winning that bronze.

That shit was so terribly boring.
maybe, but I was watching Ilynikh, Madison Chock and Tessa Virtue anyway.

A Gold medalist for Kazakhstan would be paid $250k. Ignoring income tax, $70k is probably double or triple that in buying power in his country.

Wow, snowboard cross is nuts. Used to seeing some wipe-outs in short track speed skating, but the entire snowboard cross competition was a series of crashes. And unlike short track, you don't get a pass to the next round if somebody takes you out.

I know it's "part of the sport" but that is maddening to me, getting your olympic hopes dashed because somebody else made a mistake. I'd go crazy.

It also seems to me that snowboard cross is a game of "who can mess up the least" because there's not really a way to accelerate besides gravity which affects everyone, you are just simply trying to not decelerate as much as the next guy. I guess skiing is the same, essentially. But I'm used to motorized sports, where a big enough engine can overcome your deficiencies.

And that wouldn't even pay for one year of his training. It costs top skaters more than $100k a year to train. And he trains under Frank in California who's not cheap.

Finland knocks Russia out of the hockey tournament

Really happy for Teemu's sake, he's had a rough year in the NHL, glad to see The Flash playing really well again

Holy crap, Finland won? Wow, what a horrible showing for Russian hockey.

Polonium milkshakes for all.

Dude, I'm just saddened that my dreamed USA v. Russia gold medal game is no longer possible. It'll either be the Swedes or the Fins in the final. Just not as fun of a final match-up, but hopefully it'll still be a good game.

Of course, there's still the whole figuring out who will make it that far. It appears there are already upsets in the works (Russia defeated by the Fins? D, so we'll see.

You need to worry about making it past this round first

I just don't see anyone beating Canada.

We have not been very good. Swedes and The US could easily beat us and so could Finland if Rask is really on his game.

The US-Canada semi is going to be huge! Good thing I have that day off.

As sdifox calls attention to, it is indeed not the most immediate game. But yes, I am so hoping for that to be the actual semi-final match up. That would be one of the most exciting games of the tournament.

Well I do not expect Latvia or the Czechs to put up a huge fight, but you are right, you never know.
