I had a Hyper 212+ with TR TY-140 before, but in my new Sandy there is a TR HR-02 with TR X-Silent 140. Looking for TY-140. Yes, it is heavy, and no, it was not cheap. Barely fits, but does not keep much noise.

I ordered the Corsair A70. I already know I will only be able to use one of the fans on it due to the heatsinks on my ram. This cooler is not optimal for my board. But as far as I can tell, it is the only one that is efficient enough to give me the low load temperatures I want. It performs very close to the megahalem (1C difference).

I'm using the Hyper 212 Plus right now. Installation was pretty easy and straightforward. The only possibly tricky part is making sure that you align the mounting bracket correctly, but once you do it's a breeze getting the 4 screws in.

My temps never hit >60C load even with my 2500K @ 4.5 GHz.

My initial thought of this cooler was that it was just another sycthe Ninja clone but after I got it installed and overclocked my 2500k to 4.5 ghz and saw my temps under 100% load only get up to 57 degrees, I was sold. Just make sure your case is wide enough for the heatsink. I have to leave the side panel off for now until I can get a nicer case.

Skimming the thread and I did not see anyone mention FrostyTech or their top-5 list, so I will.

They rank by temperature and noise, it is up to you to rank by price/performance. But they test all their HSF's on a common testbed (scientific method FTW), so you the data behind the performance rankings are on solid footing and comparable to data generated on HSF's from years ago on the same testbed with the same testing methodology.

(you can click the HSF's in the top5 list and see how they tested in comparison to the other HSF's)

As you can see in this table, all the top-ranked HSF's perform close to one another in terms of cooling, but noise varies widely as does price depending on where you live.

The only problem with that list, is that they don't take into account universality (if thats a word) and ease of installation, and occasional removal and re-installation.

I stand by my megahalem's !

Yeah its performance, not ease-of-use, based.

I think it is only natural to be partial to that which we know, I have experience with Tuniq's and without a doubt I'd consider buying a Tuniq 120 over a NH-C14 for myself just because I like to think my experience with Tuniqs means my learning curve with installing the Tower 120 would be lower.

For you it makes sense to keep with what you know works, megahalem, but for a person who doesn't have an existing knowledge base on installing megahalems it might be just as daunting of a learning curve for them as would be the Thermax II.

These are the sort of personal subjective pro's and con's that only an end-user can prioritize for themselves. That's why I avoid making recommendations, I just point them in the direction of data and politely suggest they logic out their dilemma on their own Teach'em to fish and all that garb

Check your local Best Buy. You may be able to find the A50 or A70 on clearance for cheap. I installed an A50 on a 2500K for a friend. Mounting was relatively simple with the cooler set for 1156 installation. Running the fan at low RPMS the idle temp is 28 and load using Intel Burn Test around 50. None of the RAM slots on the board were blocked by the A50 even if the ram had tall sinks on them.

Hitting 70S with SB is normal though, but keep in mind that you only gonna reach that high using prime or other testing software.

And I reach about 67C during Prime95 in place large FFT. I would like to drop that to at least maximum 60C.
Why? SB handles temps in the 80s and probably 90s. It won't even bat an eye in the 60s and you won't even get there with normal usage.

Simply because if I run that high at stock speeds, I dont have much headroom for when I start overclocking it. If I can run below 60C on stock speeds. Then I can accept around 70C when overclocked. With the current cooler I have, I reach close to 70C on stock speed. I know it can take more. I am just cautious.

After thinking some more about what Aldamon write here. I decided to keep the current cooler and run with it. As I dont see such high loads other than testing. By the time I need to overclock the CPU, I assume there will be other nice coolers available.
