Did a search on this and didn't come up with anything..

What is the life expectancy of socket 2011? Will Haswell-E be compatible with today's socket 2011 motherboards?

No, not interchangeable.. http://vr-zone.com/articles/intel-core-i7-ivy-bridge-e-core-i3-haswell-lineup-detailed/37832.html/3

* LGA 2011-3 and LGA 2011 share the same physical processor dimensions of 58.5 x 51.0mm
* LGA 2011-3 and LGA 2011 share the same ball pattern pitch of 1.016mm, hexagonal shape) (this refers to the little circles on the CPU itself which pins on the motherboard socket make contact with)
* LGA 2011-3 CPUs are keyed differently than LGA 2011 CPUs, meaning you cannot use a LGA 2011 CPU in a LGA 2011-3 socket, nor vice-versa

So in summary, despite the first two similarities, LGA 2011-3 and LGA 2011 are not interchangeable. Thus if upgrading to an LGA 2011-3 motherboard, you will need to buy an LGA 2011-3 CPU.

Nice features tho.. http://vr-zone.com/articles/intel-core-i7-ivy-bridge-e-core-i3-haswell-lineup-detailed/37832.html/2
Wellsburg Chipset

With Haswell-E, Intel will introduce their new Wellsburg family of motherboard chipsets. The biggest new feature (and it’s really big) is the support for DDR4 RAM clocked up to 2133 MHz (of course, you can overclock and take it much further than that). The Wellsburg X-PCH will support a number of connectivity options:

Up to 6 x USB 3.0 ports
Up to 8 x USB 2.0 ports
Up to 10 x SATA 6 Gbps ports
Integrated Clock support

Is there a release date?

After the current Ivy-Bridge E CPU'S why even show an interest? They don't overclock as well as the SB-E CPU'S, Can't think the Haswell E will over clock any better

True Ivy Bridge EP is damn good though. 12 Intel cores in a single socket is one hell of an achievement.

Its as long as I continue to use it. 2020.

Runs my DAW soo nice. 8 threads is enough but I wanted more as my app accepts it and uses it properly also does HT. 12 HT cores that are darn powerful.

One of my piano sounds would go to 100 percent on q6600 and it would crash. I did the upgrade then I used that piano the CPU resource didnt even move. I was at 0 percent or 3 percent or so CPU usage.

That how powerful these CPUs are. They are a unlimited DAW. I love my CPU however. I bought my mobo last Dec, and vouched to myself I would one day get Ivy E 6 core 12 threads.. Now I wanna fulfil that quench..

Seriously there are two LGA 2011 socket types? Why wouldnt they call the new one LGA 2013?

Yeah, but they're going to lure us in with moar cores this time. 8 core HW-E is my next upgrade.

That's what we've been hoping for every time Intel releases a new high-end part and they've always held onto the high core parts for the Xeon platform. Not saying it won't happen, but there's a good chance with HW-E Intel is going to be stingy again.

I'm too lazy to check, but I am near certain I saw official Intel documents detailing that there would be an 8 core HW-E.

Or just a 4770K and be done with it. A fine chip, and you don't have to wait.

"What's the release timeframe for Haswell-E?"

Ignore the above question, looks like end of 2014.

Geez.

Can they stop overengineering this thing and just give us Haswell CPU as-is, same as UP, same core count, in a SMP package that uses dual banks of registered RAM?

Kthnksby.

Be careful what you wish for?

There is a reason the -E chips have so many more pins. The number of PCIe lanes on 115x boards without an extra bridge chip is kind of pathetic.

Intel has made it so you have to choose between having QuickSync/integrated graphics on a desktop (115x) board or a good amount of I/O lanes on a server (2011) board. I really wish they would let you have both QuickSync and server-ish I/O together.

I have my 4960X clocked at the same speed as I had my 3960X. Better IPC, lower temperatures, and uses less power. It's a great CPU. I can't wait to replace it with a Haswell-E on release day.

I recently moved up into the LGA 2011 class with a 3930k and it sure is a powerful chip. I also did a custom water cool of the cpu and gpus because overclocking of the SB-E results in a lot of heat.

That being said, my Ivy Bridge 3770k is a great gaming chip and from what I read the Haswell 4770k is even better.

Haswell E will require a new mb so $800 cpu/mb is a bare minimum. Just experienceing the raw power of the 3930k tells me the Haswell E with 8 cores and 16 threads will be a BRUTE!

SB-E has been an awesome run for me. Intel's enthusiast platform has always served me well. My i7 920 was great before this one and lasted a long time.

I generally sell my hardware when I upgrade, but I'll never let go of my SB-E! Will put my mobo and chip into my wife's computer or the file server in the basement when I'm done with it. Somehow I will find a place for it somewhere in the house.
