Socket 7 HSF on T-bird?

Is it safe to use a socket 7 HSF on a Tbird CPU? The fit seems good but I won't turn it on because I don't know if the whole surface area of the heatsink is making contact with the cpu because of the big notch.

I wouldn't risk toasting the T-bird. Pick up a descent HSF and save yourself the trouble.

Well whatever socket7 HSF that is, the answer is still no. I am current running a 850 T-bird, I tried three HSF already one of them is an old alpha with a 60X60X10mm fan on it and the temp sky rocket on my ASUS133 mobo. It did reach ~55. The problem I found out is that the clip pressure isn't good enough for the T-bird, the HSF isn't make good contact.

What T-bird is it? You should even pick up a volcanoII or mini copper orb, they both sell at newegg.com for ~9 and ~15 respectively. Save your T-bird.

Socket 7 HSFs aren't burly enough to take an Athlon. A huge S7 HSF might take a stock speed duron (upto 750 or so).

just go and pick up a sk-6 or taisol if you're on a budget.
