Basically, i just need a little info on both of them if anyone doesnt mind.

What is new with the socket 939 boards and what actually is it? I'm not too familiar with that.

Also, i know PCI Express is going to replace AGP is it not? because it is faster. If someone was going to switch to a PCI Express mobo.. what vid cards support that and what is a GOOD mobo that supports it?

Also, are there any socket 939 pci-express mobo's out there? also asking because i do not know what socket 939 is.

Edit: I'm a power gamer, and i'd like to make the switch to PCI Express. I know it sounds a little out of wack because right now i have an ASUS A8V Deluxe and an X800 Pro by ASUS. Would i only need to switch mobo's and a new vid card that supports it?

Thanks in advance!!

Socket 939 supports Dual Channel...
PCI-E will eventually replace AGP but not any time soon...both ATI and nVIDIA have several PCI-E cards available...check their web sites...
As of right this minute there are no PCI-E motherboards for sale...that will change in about a month...

By the looks of your rig why the hell are you ready to switch to PCI-E so soon?

socket 939 is the dual channel athlon64 and athlon fx series of cpu sockets. its the number of holes in the socket, also the number of pins on the cpus.

right now for home use 64bit cpus, amd has socket 754 and socket 939. 754 has a single channel ram controller, 939 has a dual channel ram controller(more can be explained about ram controllers, sockets, pins, and other questions later.

pci express is replacing agp, it will however take a year(probably less) for pci-express to offer real world preformance increases. right now current gpu technology, being designed around agp, doesnt really need the advantages pci-express offers.

there are no motherboards that support both 939 and pci-express, not until later next month.

in the beginning yes, you'll only need to switch mobos and gpus. later with btx you'll need a new psu and case.

When you say dual channel, are you talking about dual processors, or just running 2 or 4 sticks of ram in dual channel?

I was only looking into PCI - Express because i do not have the knowledge necessary to run dual gpu's or cpu's.

The gaming world frustrates the hell out of me because they release games that not even the best hardware on the market can run properly. A few games, Doom3, Perimiter, etc. slow down a little when on highest resolutions or highest settings.

I'm out of school right now and trying to put a lot of money into my computer while i can.

Thanks again for the info! I really appreciate it.

The main advantage of PCI-e is going to be SLI, that is until video cards can saturate an 8X AGP bus, which should be a ways off.

Via 939 mobos with PCI-E will be out mid to late Oct. Nforce 4 boards will be out sometime between Oct-Jan. Geforce 6800 series will be out for PCI-E in the "fall".

If you get a mobo with a single pci-e slot you can always upgrade to a dual slot board down the road when you are ready to buy a second card. You are still better off than if you bought an agp card.
