I'm in the process of upgrading my cpu and can't decide on which CPU to get. I've been looking and I've pretty much decided on a dual core cpu. Kinda fond of the Opty 170 as its a good Overclocker from what i've read and good price. I was also looking at a few others. So When in doubt i ask the pros. I you could have any dual core socket 939 cpu under $400 us what would it be? Thanks.

I think an x2 4600+ is probably the best bang for buck way to go. Not sure about overclock-ability but toms cpu charts do not show much a difference below a 4800+. Also you might want to check out the opterons but i don't know too much about them. Either way, both are dual core and better than an FX-5* option.

I'm in a similar spot to you. I'm looking at the Opty 185 at newegg for 335...but I'm not into Overclocking

The OEM FX-60's at Tiger Direct at $320 with a free motherboard seem like the best option for 939 right now IMO

I go Opteron 170 again. If you don't OC the FX-60 mentioned above looks like a pretty good deal.

I just upgraded to the X2 3800 from my 3000. But that is because I hate spending a lot of money on processors since they always soon depreciate.

Im in the same boat...trying to decide if I want the Opteron 170 and overclock or just get the Opteron 185 for $135 more...currently I'm leaning toward the Opteron 185. Till you buy the required heatsink with the Tiger Direct deal (to keep the warranty - check the bottom of the page) and pay shipping it's not worth it to me over the $335 Opteron 185 with free shipping from newegg.

CANNOT go wrong with that one. Fastest dual-core for s939. Jump at it, it won't be around long.

The fastest is an FX-62 (2.8GHz) not FX-60 (2.6GHz).

I'll throw in another vote for the X2 4600+ since I just got one back in December. I currently have mine in between FX-60 & FX-62 speeds at 2.7GHz, however I'm replacing the original HSF for a better one and hopefully I'll be able to get a stable 2.8-3.0GHz. Not bad considering if was significantly cheaper than an FX processor.

The FX-62 is AM2-only so the fastest s939 dual-core is indeed the FX-60/Opteron 185...

Edit: I could have swore I seen them at NCIX about 3-6 months back and I just read a few forums in which people said they were(at the time of the posting) ordering them.
I don't know..... but after searching around you are correct that there are no FX-62 processors for Socket 939.
Either way the FX-60 is a waste unless you can they can stably overclock to 3.2GHz or better on air cooling and even still it's still too much to pay.

Got my vote. You should definately take a look at the FX-60.
