I ordered a computer system expecting an ASRock Socket 939 Dual SATA2 mobo and I got a socket 754 mobo.

I called the supplier and they claimed that socket 939 is being discontinue.

That is not true isn't it?

I thought that socket 939 is more advance than socket 754.

I smell BS.

Sounds a little strange. 939 will eventually go away when the new socket comes out but with all the new socket 939 chips being produced I think it'll be quite some time.

Wow-let me know who the supplier is so I will be sure to never do business with them!

"everything" will be discontinued at some point, Socket AM2 is going to replace socket 939 eventually.

s939 being discontinued? so they give you a s754 mobo instead RMA, and never do buisness with them again.

You can still buy Socket A boards new from newegg, like the EPoX 8RDA3+ Pro or whatnot... I wouldn't worry about no more socket 939 boards and chips for a long time.

They're full of crap. Socket 939 is going to be here for at least another year.

yup if it was advertised as socket 939 demand it because 939 alone offers a decent performance gain

I call BS on that.

Yes, 939 is going to become second leg to M2 when that's launched, but right now, when it matters, 939 is damned near the top of the pile, if not the top of the pile.

Return, and black list 'em, no point in doing business with bumbling idiots.

Boy, what a rip! When Socket M2 comes out the 939 will be relegated to the economy PCs, like socket 754 is today, and socket 754 will be discontinued. That supplier is lying!!!! with a capital L

Yup, and Socket AM2 will be discontinued 6 months later. Gotta love it.

Whether the socket is being discontinued or not is irrelevant.

You pay for something. You are supposed to get it. If they cannot deliver it, you are the one who should make the call to get something else instead or not, not them.

Definitely, don't let it concern you. They change every 6 months anyhow. So regardless of what you get, it will discontinue.

As others have said, Socket 754 will be discontinued before Socket 939 which is more recent. When Socket M2 comes out, Socket 754 will be the one that is discontinued while Socket 939 will be relegated to the low end that Socket 754 currently occupies.

Basically what we have now is Socket 754 (low end) and Socket 939 (mid+high end). In a few months, we will have Socket 939 (low+mid end) and Socket M2 (high end). Socket 754 is the one that will be discontinued. Though there will still be boards and cpu's available in the market for at least another couple of years. Just like there are still Socket A motherboards and cpu's around.

The question is whether or not the system you ordered was suppose to have a Socket 939 or Socket 754 motherboard and cpu. If you ordered Socket 939 and they gave Socket 754, you got screwed. I'd take it up with your credit card company to dispute the charges if the company doesn't give you a free exchange to what you ordered.

Man I would be irate. It is not their concern whether something is being discontinued or not, true or false. Their concern is to provide the buyer with the product they, hold your breath for a second here, actually purchased.

Socket 939 will be around for a long time, and even M2 won't be a really convincing reason to upgrade, according to AMD. Unless DDR2 really gets its prices and latencies under control. They were lying, or don't know squat. Who was it???

Their either stupid or trying to rip you off. I'd send it back and not do business with them anymore.

If they are out of stock, and only had the 754's left, then they should have contacted you before sending you something. What store did this??

Why does everyone keep throwing around this 6 months number? Socket 939 has been around since June 1, 2004. By the time AM2 is out in quantity, it will have been around for at least 1.75 years as the high-end AMD platform, and it will live on for at least another year as the mid-range and low-end platform.

Yes, S939 will eventually discontinue. The FX-60 is the last of the breed. So what. Look how long AMD kept to the same socket. How many times has Intel changed their chipset/socket for nearly every iteration of their CPUs??
