Socket 939 ram question

I have an iMac G5 and I´m going to switch to PC and I´m wondering if the ram from the Mac would be good enough. It´s a PC3200 CL3 and it´s some kind of a German brand. At least it has performed well in the Mac so far. Yea, and it would be nice to be able to o/c.

If this is a bad idea, I´m just going to get a X2 mobo and cpu....or a Conroe if they become available soon.

Ps. I´ve 2x 1GB in the Mac = 2GB

Using it will be fine, dont bank on it OCing that much though.

You can keep the RAM running within spec anyway, if you just use dividers.

I digged up my ram in the Mac and found out that on the base is written "Transcend" and on these little grey things on the ram (8 on each side) is written Infineon and this serial: infineon HYB250512800BE--5

Does anybody have a clue on whether it is smart to use this ram or not?

as long as it's 184-pin DDR SDRAM, then it should be fine.

even if it's not compatible, it won't damage anything, it will simply not work... so don't worry about it.

By the way, even though it's PC3200, it's only CL3 (the slowest timings) so it's kind of low performance ram, but it should still work ok.

I´m just wondering if it´s worth it to use such a ram like this and whether it is likely to slow down the system.

The alternative would be getting an X2 socket system (for the same price as the 939) and then buy a new memory and keep the old in the Mac. If I didn´t have this ram, I would prefer the new socket since it´s available at a very similar price.
