How much of an overclock will I expect on a 90nm winchester 3200 with PC3200 2.5 CAS Corsair Value select?

The same overclock as usual (probably 2.2-2.4 without increasing VCore, topping out at 2.6-2.7); you just run a divider, which doesn't kill performance here.

Why doesnt that kill performance in this case? ... ? just curious

ive got the 3000 version i have it over clocked up to a 3500+ which is aroudn 240 FSB and 4x HTT, ive heard peopel up to 260 and 290 with this, but i upted the voltage one step to make it completely stable. Ihad mine at 260 no problems just after a whiel my comptuer hated me and rebooted as it wasnt 100% stable. I am goignt o try again with some other changed ot get it up to 260 FSB again.

My 3000+ Winnie is totally stable at 1.5v and 267 FSB=2403 MHz. I actually have exactly that ram in 2x256 dual channel. My settings are 2.5-3-3 and a 333/400 divider which means my ram is running 222 or an 11% OC. One drawback to that ram-it won't do 1T timings in my machine (Abit AV8). Maybe it's my motherboard, but I think it's the ram. That makes for about a 5% decrease in performance. Check Zebo's incredible post (Pulitzer-worthy article) called the Official 939 Memory Matrix in the CPU/Overclocking forum for lots more on the over-rated effects of dividers on Athlon 64.

i use corsair select with a divider of 4:3, and with the extra leeway, i dropped the cas to 2 and a few other memory tweaks that are not noticeable

edit: u can expect 2.5ghz if you use the 4:3 divider.

I got my 3000+ at 260 x 9 =2340mhz stable and all voltages standard. My 2x512 corsair value is running at 216mhz and at ddr333/400 and its also doing it at 2.5-3-3-8 1T which is the way it is supposed to do it.
Everything runs very fast.

Well some of you have more than PC3200 like I do. But I wonder what the performance increase would be going from a socket 754 at 2.0 GHz to a 939 at 2.4Ghz running on a divider.

Thanks guys!

I dont think that from a 754 3000 to a socket 939 2.4 will give a significant differnce for the price. However with the 939 you can always upgrad to a fx if need be and the new cores are being developed on it. BUt for the price i dont tihnk tis worht it... unless you got cash liek some peopel do.

See here.

Regs: Seeing as you already have a 3000+, I would have suggested that you overclock your current processor (2.4GHz should be attainable with a Newcastle), but I noticed you have a K8V Deluxe (old VIA K8T800), which can't overclock at all. Try just getting a better board, like the DFI Lanparty.

depends. 2.4 on stock voltage should come w/o issue but most see 2.6 with help either cooling and/or volts.

He can OC that board fine if you know how.. look at table between PCI slots REGS.

You think a 3000 newcaslte 754 has any chance in reaching the stable over clocks like the 939 winchesters?

The reason why im thinking about switching to a 939 is mostly because I have a opportunity to do it now.

1. I upgrade my CPU/MOBO at least once a year.
2. I just saved 50% on car insurance by switching to geico (no joke). 2,000k!
3. And I can sell off my 754 set up for around 200 dollars.

Would I be better off getting just a 1.8 winchester? Would I be able to over clock it the same for 40 dollars less?

I do belive so, i have the 3000+ (1.8) winchester and i knwo ti can oc easier then the 3500 and you can get the 3000 up to the 3500 and higher perfectly stable.

Anyone think other wise?

I believe 2.4 is sustainable. But since you are limited with 9x multiplier you might not reach FX speeds. Not unless you have expensive RAM.

Were you using stock cooling? What were your temps?

I have a Winchester 3200 with Mushkin 2-2-2 on an EP-9NDA3J. I tried to run the fsb at 220 instead of 200 and I could not boot. I have yet to try bumping the multiplier.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS. Ensure all other BIOS settings are good, and then bump the HT multiplier (sometimes "LDT") to 4x. Your RAM will never be the limiting factor with an A64--if the memory can't handle a speed you're running at, go down to the 166 setting (a 5:6 divider).

Oh, and don't try to increase the multiplier--all A64s except for the FX are locked in that direction. (You can go down, but you'll see no benefit to running 8x300 instead of 9x266.)

i agree with ts3433, it sounds liek daveshel is having a HTT or LDT issue where the memory is not runing an its most efficancy step. The HTT probalby is at 5 right now, maybe lower but set it to 4 and your comptuer shoudl bootup. Keep our multiplier at 9, up yoru fsb to 220 then put your HTT or LDT to 4 and volia. You can probalby get it up to 240 easily.
