With the new 90nm cores the stock coolign keeps them really cool. I do suggest if you dont have an intake or exhausst fans, to get one of each for optimal circulation in the case. RIght now i ahve mine up to 2.2 on stock and it runs low 40s easily, I will eb gettign it up to 2.5 and will fin dout how much more heat it gives but im sure it will be fine.

Performance wise, there isn't hardly a difference between 754, and 939. But if you want to upgrade it later, I think you'll be SOL with a 754.

I'll be moving this board & CPU to a secondary machine in the future, so I want CPU upgradeability. Also, I went with a 3500+ for the 10x multiplier.

This is true. I have not seen my CPU temp rise above 107F.

You can probalby get it up to 240 easily.

No, it rebooted as soon as Windows started to load (at 9 X 220 with HTT 4).

Did you try CPUZ or Clockgen to make sure you AGP/PCI buses were actually locked? Could be a faulty mobo.

whats your FSB and HTT(LDT) set at and vcore of your cpu? and what ram and what timmmings??

235x9, 4X HT, 1.5V VCORE, PC3200 Mushkin RAM running @ 193 8-3-3-2.5. Dropping to 3x HTT or dropping the CPU multiplier don't seem to help.

whats your power supply. I have tested this issue with a 350. If i overclock to much with my 350 i ahve stabalilty issues. WHen i put the antec 550 in i can push t harder and faster and its stable. Does yours not boot or does it just crash randomly??

What do u have in your rig, hardrives cd roms leds, cathorays? You might be unstable with power to over clock. i sugesst trying to unplugg the cd-roms leds extra fans and then see ifyou can boot up. Also it could be the antec. Look at this link.

http://forum.msi.com.tw/thread.php?postid=504093

I have an antec as well, but there are some issues, what is your mobo??

yah you got alot of power sucking there. UNplug your optical drives, un plug your 120 mm fans, unplug your 250 unless its the booting drive.. down the power as much as possible and try again.

You need at least 400 watts to power 2 HDDs, 2 Opticals, 1 AMD 64 and a 6800+

Would you say a P4 would require more power?

A Prescott most definitely. A Northwood - a minimum of 4-6 watts. So you would still be ok with a 430 watt.

Ok- Time to let the noob out of me.

I just installed my A8V 1.007 BIOS and my 3200 Winchester. This is my first over clocking board I had, ever. My computer won't boot windows with a 1:1 divier with a 10x220 600MHz HTT over clock. So I guess I will have to run a divider which was predictable. What would be the best divider for a 10x220 GHz? Or what would be the best settings for a maxium overclock? If you could list what I have to change, or even a winchester oc guide that would be great.

Right now im at a stable overclock of 220x10 600Mhz HT with a 5:3 divider. Ram is running at 183 MHz. Think this is profitable? Or should I try to push the 2.4? What would I have to do? Drop the multiplayer to 9 and up the HTT bus to 260 while keeping it on 5:3? Increase v-core to 1.5v?

1.007?? Your rev 2.0 board (if it is new) should have come with either the final version BIOS 1008 or the 1008.003. Make sure you have the rev 2 board I hope you do. There has been 3 BIOS updates for this mobo in the last month. Wierd honh? The latest is 1009 FINAL which is actually 1009.007 and this bios has been nothing but a pain in the arse for me so I'm back at 1008 now. The A8V is a notorious "undervolter" (with BIOS's before 1009 betas) and dislikes LOW Hypertransport speeds. Put your 66/33 lock on FIRST! Try your x4 mult (800MHz on your boards BIOS) and run your 220 x 10. Put your RAM volts to 2.7 and set timings to 3-4-4-10. KEEP your cpu volts at stock. Run the 1:1 on your RAM. If it wont boot to WinXP then up the RAM volts to 2.8. B4 your up to 2.8 check your RAM specs and MAKE SURE it is capable of this 2.8. Afterwards if it is stable read Zebo's post and go for your ultimate cpu OC using a 5:3 or 4:3 div as stated in the A8V's BIOS. 240 x 10 with the 5:3 divider puts your RAM right at 200.1MHz and you should be able to run your RAM at its rated SPD timings whatever they are. Use cpuID to get your SPD's This 240 x 10 will get you 2400 MHz and you might need to up your cpu volts if prime95 is not stable.

Damnit. CPU-Z Reports it at 1.xx. But the GPU core is staying very cool @ 54c. My old K8T800 reported well over 60c when I overclocked.

54 is fine under load but it could run cooler with good air cooling solution. You say cpu-z reports the BIOS as being 1.xx ? Wierd. Again wuts your cpu volts? 1.450?

Hmm, I think I need to update CPU-Z. It's saying I have a 754 clawhammer....Which is kind of hard to have a AV8.

Nope, I don't think I got the Rev 2. I'm kind of pissed right now. Know a program to check to see if the PCI/AGP bus is locked at 66?

Text

Hmm..I got the A8V and not the K8V...

Either way..Glockgen is reporting my AGP/PCI bus locked at 66. So this is good.

Oh ok i see now you got rev 1.xx in cpu-z. Mine says this as well in cpu-z but I have the revision 2 board. Look under the 3rd (i think ) pci slot and see if your board is rev 2.0 I bet it is. Need a flashlight to see it probably. You might want a newer BIOS as well I suggest 1008 FINAL just because there are some probs (cold boot and stability issues) with the 1009, but again this 1008 is quite an under volter. Check this out as well http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47232

Well, mine had a problem find the OS. It set my C drive and not my G drive as the master. And I think you are right. I must have the 2.0 board. I got scared there for a second.

I just used glockgen to overclock my CPU to 2.4 GHz. Ram is running at exactly 200. Windows and 3Dmark is running stable. My CPU is running at 39c Idle and around 45c load. Vcore is 1.45 and D vault did not have to be changed. I gained 3,000 points in 2001 3D mark as well.

Ill try setting my HT Link to 800 instead of 600 later. I doubt there will be a performance gain though.

I'm a very happy camper right now. I don't think ill be able to get past 2.5 without PC3500 or PC3700 ram. I guess ill save that for later this year

Thanks!
