Soviet those are my thoughts exactly, except I would actually expect A64 to stay ahead of the P-M derivatives in gaming, among other areas. The only reason I would want to switch up my socket to 939 or M2 at all would be to go dual-core, since I'm often encoding, burning, or whatever else. But is it worth it? I just don't know...

I have actually only upgraded 3 times in the 6 years!!

I usually upgrade once every 2 years.

Unless i find that to upgrade at the moment will put me in a position where if I were to wait 6 more months the standard will be better established and the so called bugs will have been dealt with!!

Upgrading needs to be done carefully and after reading whet the industry trends are as well as reading forums and then you have to convince yourself the time is right!!

Anyways I always hate upgradingbecuase it means you have to get upto date on the latest and greatest so that your upgrade is actually a true upgrade instead of just maintaining!!

Good Luck!!

Wow 939 is a 1 1/2 yrs old and will be 2 /12 years old when M2 comes out and we don't know if i means death for it or not and even if it does we will probably get at least a year out of then making it 2.5 yrs old. We knew when it came out that any change in the Memory controller ment a new socket so why are people jumping up and down screaming bloody murder, do you guys really have that short of a memory.

I have an Idea - How about M2 has no value socket wise other then DDRII right? Well then what would stop AMD from selling two matching lines or really close for both one for DDR and one for DDRII.

Also foor people that keep refering to Socket A as a 5 yr old socket but say that 754 or 939 is short lived, why do you continue to count the 2 yrs after amd released the 754 socket, didn't that mark the death of the socket.

If AMD puts all the new 65nm chips on M2 (which is highly likely) the whole point is moot

Everyone expects M2 to be a rather short-lived socket (perhaps still lengthier than Intel's 423) and I have to concur given the few facts we have at this point.

Well I have no doubt 65nm will be coming out on M2 and not 939 (maybe some Semprons though), but at the same time 65nm in and of itself isn't enough to make me jump up and down. I've got a 130nm chip right now and I don't see what I'm really missing for lack of 90nm, except maybe SSE3. Right now I've got my 2800+ at two different settings I run:

2.0 GHz@1.3v and 900 MHz@0.9v

Putting me well below even the wattage used by the Venice cores...

Not to say that I wouldn't try and get a stable overclock+undervolt if I had a Venice as well. Maybe I could get down to 1.2v?
