What's the significant differences in all the various socket types when considering a motherboard and CPU?

OK...then is there any particular socket I should look for when building a machine for high end business and video editing?

Socket 939 is the newest from AMD or maybe the Intel equivalent if you're feeling lucky.

I agree with bob4432, that something like choosing whether or not to upgrade can't really be done in a forum unless you're just posting system specs, listing what you'd like to do with the computer, how much money you have, and then asking people to decide if you should upgrade if you really have no clue.

what app are you going to be editing with? what encoder? are they smp(dual processor) aware?
