Well, I guess my expectations were higher and when they weren't met I just took the loss. I'm just trying to prepare others for it too.

I don't have Vista either but that doesn't take away the fact that there is technology using it. COD4 is DX9 but still looks amazing.

$10 less doesn't take it out of the comparison. A budget game, which is where the new SOF game is, would be $10-20.

Storyline? I don't play COD4 for any storyline. I play it for the MP. I did the same for SOF2.

Unfortunately they used a nice video preview for the game to hype up all SOF fans. Anyone that buys the game will not see that at all. They will be quite disappointed.

The MP sucks completely...go play TF2

budget games typically don't have online multi player, the Havok physics engine and customizable weapons (to name a few things) I'm not saying this is worthy of being a full priced title. But guess what? it's not, it's 40 bucks and that's in between budget/full priced. Rainbow 6: Vegas is the last FPS I remember where I could customize weapons, and honestly I get more choices in SOF, that's a big plus.

graphics aren't the best compared to a game that was universally ranked one of the best of the year (COD 4) and oddly enough the game itself isn't as well received as COD4, which is again, one of the highest rated games of the year.

America's Army was completely free and offered all of that and more. The graphics are even ten times better. It currently uses the Unreal 3 engine. Give me a break with the excuses.

I still play Sof2 mp. Too much, best FPS out there. I am in the sniping servers. Anyway here is a link to a review by someone into Sof2. I think this game looks more like a console game than PC. But this is a good review and he gives the differences in game play. I have not played Payback, and since Sof2 SP was only OK, and the MP had to be modded to make it what it is now, I will wait to see if they can make Payback a great MP, but I am not holding my breath. It looks like they completely ignored the very active MP community that keeps the game going when they made this.

I've played CoD4 and SoF: PB and the graphics are about equal. CoD4 may be a little better because you can tweak them through settings. The only thing you can change in PB is resolution.

All they did was port the console version of the game to PC. They made no PC specific tweaks to the game.

Now, people at Cauldron have replied to people who complained to them about the game and told them that they will be making changes through patches. If all this is true, PB may end up being a pretty good game. Although I think it may be a little too late because people already have a bad taste in their mouth from it being released the way it is now.
But then again, maybe this will leave the mature and rational players left in the game and all the little whiny babies wil go to something like CoD4.

Good news!

This is from the sofpayback.com site.

I just got word from David at Cauldron that there will be some patches for the PC version of the game (Woot!).

He has created an account and requested that I create a special section so that he can make some informative posts and answer a few questions.

This is good news for a few reasons. Obviously reason number one is that Cauldron is actively interested in your feedback, and have plans to make improvements to this game.

Reason two is that they are interested in being a part of the community. Interested in what we as a community have to say. That's awesome and much appreciated. Post-purchase support is a great thing.

I have a section just for Cauldron and they will be making some posts in a few days... as of right now that section will only be editable for members of the development team, but I'll work out details with them about opening that up. Just don't want it to get cluttered for now.

so it's official that patches are definitely coming! I think the David guy mentioned is the head of development at Cauldron.

gosh, so much argument... my friend got it, he tries to run it on his vista machine. as soon as he starts the game, it slowed to a crawl... surprisingly since cod4 runs perfectly on his machine. he's waiting for a patch. and i was going to read this thread to see if I should get it.

Kanye West and 50 Cent released albums on the same day. That was a direct competition between the two. Are you seeing anything on this?

SOFPB's graphics are nowhere close to that of COD4. Heck, BF2's graphics look better than SOFPB's!

The CloakNT3 engine is just an updated engine used in the game Chaser. That game is from back in 2003! Have you seen screenshots of that? Same engine but given DX9 updates! Do some reading...

you sound like a troll, I've played both, I'm not going to argue which is better, but the graphics are CLOSE. SOF doesn't have graphics as good as COD4, but they're not even as close to as far off as you're making them out to be. The explosions look BETTER, the weapon models look BETTER, COD4 has it's high points graphically. But they are in the same realm regardless of how much you dislike the game. Also the animation is better in SOF. You said BF2 has better graphics, that is hilarious. Just to see I went and loaded up BF:2, you need glasses badly...
