Wow, throw back to SoF2 MP... If this can capture that game play, we will have a real winner. With a new engine, they will have had to work to get things to feel like SoF2. Just the right pace and throwing knives.

I LOVED THAT GAME! Cheaters kinda ruined it for me, based off the quake 3 engine it was awesome!

The demo is what got me hooked, playing Shop all day long...

There are so many good games coming out this year. I'm playing through Jericho, then I've got CoD 4 and Crysis later, and after that SoF Payback. :thumbsup:

I think Jericho is awesome and I'm quite far into the game. It's like a more brutal version of Serious Sam and Painkiller with better story.

BB doesnt' have it yet, but some people already seemed to pick it up. With all the Crysis hype, should be easy to find it.

uh oh...the reviews from players that have it aren't going so well.

they are saying SP is pretty good but MP, not so much.

They are saying MP is missing tons of basic features.

Some issues:

Problems installing the game
No Lean
No knives
No Colored Tags
No ranking system
Lack of advanced video options
No chat in MP
server browser doesn't show ping
no favorite servers list
no stats (but who cares about that?)
no console
no back buttons on the user interface, have to press esc.
unable to change crosshair size/shape
no unique key or guid, not sure how that will affect bannign people and dealing with cheaters.
no crouch (how can there be no crouch????)

one good note is that you don't need the cd/dvd in the drive while playing.
man, this sucks because it looked like things were looking up there for awhile.

Someone wrote on the Payback boards that SoF2 lost money big time. That surprises me given the length of time it was on the shelves and the very active multiplayer community it had (has). Real bummer that this game sucks. At least there are a bunch of good new shooter releases out there that should ease the pain.

My copy came today and I installed it.
Took forever, just like some of my other recent games...no idea whats going on there.

yeah, this isn't very good. This game doesn't even deserve the name Soldier of Fortune. I didn't even finish the first mission yet. I keep dying and I'm playing on normal difficulty.
The graphics are pretty decent (although I am seeing some flickering textures in the trees) and the weapons seem cool, but the gameplay is kinda blah.

the menus and gameplay definitely smell of console. ugh...you can tell this game was made for consoles and PC was just tacked on. You how in consoles you have to select letters and stuff to name your character? yeah, you gotta do it in the PC version also to name your MP character.

I didn't even try MP yet. i'm not sure i want to.

Too bad, becasue those videos I watched made the game look all kinds of awesome. I had this on my short list of games to get after reading about it before release, but now it has been crossed off.

actually it originally started as an Activision Value title, but during production they brought in a lot of the people who worked on the original 2 and made it a full fledged Activision game. It's $40 bucks, never seen a Value title go for more than $20.

Not to say the game's any good, I haven't played it, but in release form it's far from one of their Value titles.


as far as the gripes people seem to be having, most should easily be addressable in a patch. I'm talking about leaning, jumping etc. I'll wait awhile and see if Activision fixes these things, and by then if they do it will probably have dropped to $30 bucks
