Software for digital microscope

Hi folks,

I received a Chinese digital microscope as a gift, and the accompanying software is extremely poor and buggy (bad interface, mostly).
I'd like to be able to capture either video or stills from it, but I'm not sure what would work.

For instance, the device is supposed to be TWAIN compatible, but it's not detected by my (admittedly old) Photoshop software.

Do you have any video/still capture suggestions? Do you have experience with this kind of sort-of-digicam devices? Please let me know.

What are the brand name and model number of the microscope?

No brand. Just says "Digital Microscope" and "U500x"

3 years ago, I bought this microscope for my daughter, and this image-capture device with it. The latter helps you see and save the images from the microscope onto a PC. It came with a software on a CD that was functional, but pretty kludgy. Still, it worked fine, and allowed her to save and print images from the microscope.

The one good thing was, I did not see the software have any problem detecting the device once connected to the computer.

I am not sure this is much helpful to you, other than offering you some options.

I could try and dig up that software to share with you, but that may not work for your device.

The CoolingTech U500x microscope (also sold as Cytron and a half dozen other names) and its software was designed to run on Windows 2000 and XP, so it may not be fully compatible with newer systems. However, it should show up automatically as a USB Video Device (basically a web cam) and can be used with just about any web cam type software. Calibration/focus/magnification of the device can only be controlled through the software that came with the camera so you'll need to use that program if you need anything more than basic video/still image capture at the microscope's default settings.
