Software KVM Without Network

I have a 2nd computer running XP in order to maintain legacy applications that don't run on 7. XP is not allowed on the company network. I can't seem to find any software KVM solutions that would allow me to control this computer from my main 7 machine that don't rely on the two machines being on the same network. I was hoping there was something that would work across usb. For all I know, connecting the XP machine to my networked machine is a no-no anyway.

Anyone know of a usb solution, and maybe more importantly, anyone know if a usb connection between the two computers would be a network security issue I should avoid anyway?

Do you have more than one nic? or can you add one (a pci nic is about 10 bucks). Then just get a little switch and connect them through a separate network.

Just make sure you put your network in a different address range from the work network.

It sounds like you are trying to complicate it, why not just use a standard usb kvm?

It really depends on how he wants/needs it to interact with his other system(s). To be just "there", but not necessarily transferring data, the kvm is a good idea.

Maybe throw Team Viewer on the XP machine and then use the Team Viewer client in Win 7. This is not really network related, but more on if both computers use the Internet. Team Viewer can punch through a firewall. It is also encrypted and HIPAA compliant. I use it on my smartphone and laptop to gain access to my netbook that hosts a Teamspeak and FTP sever. Little work horse has been on 24/7 for two years now. Netbook runs XP. I have Immunet on there and never got a virus.

I don't, and they are both laptops so adding a nic I don't think is an option.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have to look into why they have this dedicated machine instead of a VM. I was hoping to be able to copy and paste across machines but it is looking like that won't be an option. Oh well. I'll see if I can set up something like Team Viewer at least. I am not even sure I'll be able to get to the internet on it...
