software needed for file transfer over net....

Been searching all over the net for such a thing but always running into somethings that has a file transfer limit. I need something that would transfer something in between 5GB and 7GB captured tv programs from back home to my sisters comp which is 150KM away from my place. I know that I could split my files to smaller chunks that would fall under the limit but got too many of them and will take considerable amount of time editing. Freeware or not would be fine by me. I'll be housing all of the files in a separate comp that would act as a server type for my sister to access.

shipping a dual-layer DVD snail mail would probobly be easiest...have you looked into ftp?

use 7zip for file splitting, just do minimal compression.

Civil Netizen is great for transferring huge files over the net, even works when I am serving the file through double NAT!

Apparently Civil Netizen got a 4GB limit which is the biggest on any programs I've come across. Definitely got potential.

SSFT is pretty easy to configure and use. It supports file resuming, large file sizes, etc.

Should be as simple as running the app on your PC, setting it up to listen over a certain port, opening that port on your firewall, and then on your sister's computer, running the programming, connecting to your PC's external IP on the same port, and you can begin the transfer.

It seems like alot of work, but it's literally 3-4 minutes of work from when you start until you begin transferring.

Unless you don't have access to the root router (like me, internet included in rent, ugh) or you run double nat (I run a WRT54G with DDWRT to get my 'net from the free 'net provided with my place, and don't want anyone snooping around my LAN).

Fair enough - But you have a rather unique setup that probably isn't the case at 90% of home setups.

Hamachi can create a VPN connection across the Internet that can be used for file transfer. Beware of your ISP's data transfer limits, though, which often aren't publicized. Go over them in a month and you can lose your Internet access.
