I'm with Badluck. These disks are very clearly cheap, and I won't argue that point. But they are not flaking apart spontaneously like some people say, nor have I yet made a coaster out of them -- note that I have a quaint relic 8x Philips burner, and slower burn speeds are far more forgiving of media. While the silver coating isn't frosted, you can write on them with a Sharpie and it sticks fine and doesn't rub off any of the silver.
The only complaint I have about these CDs are that they do seem to have a slight QA problem when it comes to the discs being completely flat; that is, I transferred them to a spindle and you can see places where the disc-to-disc spacing varies, presumably because the disc bends a bit between inside and outside.
As a hard core rebate hater, I'm on the lookout for straight deals on CDs and don't find too many. Shipping kills most mail order deals, and I'm sick and tired of retailers upping the base price and then having a mail in rebate. So I'm satisfied with this deal by Best Buy, and I think those who disagree and would like to crap on this deal should simply not buy these. They're good cheapo CDs. They're clearly not for archival purposes (I've got TY discs for that), but for everyday random disposable CDs, they're fine, IMO.
Aside: My local Sam's club has Verbatim 100 CD spindles for $15 regular price. For those rebate haters who want instant gratification or are nervous about this BB $10 deal, that might be a good option also.
Here's what my tools have to say about the Pine CDs I received. YMMV -- I've heard reports of there being several different manufacturers received by folks who ordered this deal:
