Damn, this is temping to get two of these and RAID them up. Anyone know if these do well without TRIM (garbage collection maybe?)?

If you are using windows 7... you should be fine with this SSD...

With RAID (TRIM isn't passed (yet))? Since TRIM isn't passed, does the drive take care of it's own cleanup (ala garbage collection during idle times, etc.)?

Make sure to check buy.com to see if they will match it. Then we can use that $10 off coupon ( :

$0.74/GB

I so wish I needed this drive, but all I do is browse the web and play Skyrim. Trying to justify spending the $200.00.

How would you guys rate this vs the Sandisk Extreme 240GB for $176 @ Adorama right now?

http://www.adorama.com/IDSEID240GB.html

The Sandisk is a Sandforce drive but it's highly rated and uses Sandisk manufactured toggle flash. It has some of the highest ratings on Newegg and other sites of any drive I've seen and it's insanely fast. Thoughts?

The two deals are about dead even, considering both speed and capacity. That Sandisk is nice, and about the speed of a Vertex Max IOPS, so this is how it would compare to the Samsung: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/532?vs=366

I'd go for the Samsung based on reliability.

Wow, great deal - too bad it goes live in the middle of the night for most of us. The question is, will it be sold out in the morning?

Depends on what time you get up in the morning. If your that worried, set your alarm for 3:00am lol

This is a very hot ssd deal (one of the fastest and reliable) so I really believe it will sell out at some point tomorrow..

I have a SSD alert setup on slickdeals so I get messaged whenever there is a good deal posted. I've been waiting and waiting to buy a SSD, all these magazines I read and websites say a SSD is the best thing you can buy for a computer, and that once you use it you'll never go back to a traditional hard drive. I almost jumped on that $350 512GB Corsair M4 deal that was posted the other day, but then I realized I'd probably never use that much space. That and I've read people post reviews about the M4 series not being the most reliable.

Well this Samsung 830 at $190 and 256GB is perfect, but I'm just wondering how much lower it will go this year. I'd kick myself if I bought it at $190 then next month or something it drops to $150 or lower....not sure what the bottom price is.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-recommendation-review,3194-5.html

BTW tomshardware.com had this in their monthly SSD recommendation list. Best SSD for $300 when they published it.....so at $190 it must be considered a steal. Time to think this over before 12am Pacific hits, $190 for a hard drive that speeds up my boot times and loading times.......is it worth it? Hmmmmmmmmmm so hard to decide, I haven't play any computer games in over a year and all I do is surf the internet, watch videos, download stuff. When I'm done I put the computer to sleep so boot times and loading times don't really matter that much to me. I don't use any hard drive intensive software...so I'm not sure if the extra speed of a SSD is really worth all that much to me.

Piece of advice from someone who started buying SSDs in 2008, and more in 2009 when I bought my Intel G2s.

One of my G2s (I have the 40 and 160GB) was $500 for 160GB. I'd do it again, without hesitation given the chance to do it over. I'd probably buy it even earlier upon release and pay more.

As long as you stick with Intel, Samsung or (Marvell based) Crucial you're fine and you should've done it a long time ago. I don't think you'll fret over a price drop, with that mentality you might as well have kept using the Pentium 133mhz. Best money you'll spend on computer hardware, there's no doubt about that. And the money I've spent on SSDs (barring OCZ) were the best money I've spent on PCs in my life. I've been doing this since the Commodore64 in the mid 80s. Quit screwing around, spend your money.

Alot of people in the slickdeals thread are hoping for Amazon to prize match, they usually do but only to the advertised price, not the price after coupon which unfortunately what this deal is. I have $350 or so in Amazon gift cards so it would be a no brainer for me to buy this if Amazon matches it. Hopefully enough people will go to the Amazon page for this SSD and hit the "tell us about a lower price" and type in $190, if enough people do it Amazon might. The only thing is Newegg will probably run out of stock before Amazon price matches it.

I don't think you'll see Amazon price match this, at least this time. If you want to use your gift cards I'd just wait till you find a deal on Amazon.

Is this promo code good for all the different versions (notebook/desktop kits) or is it only good for the bare drive linked?

I have it(the bare drive) in my paypal cart right now with all the info filled out...Just waiting for someone to answer my question before I click the submit button.
I'm not going to bother trying to remove it from my cart now to experiment which could lead me to an OOS status message.
