Just out of curiousity, how long does it take to burn a single-sided DVD at 4x and 8x?

I can see limitations being controlled by the SATA or ATA-133 bus... but still... I'm wondering if waiting for 8x prices to drop might be worthwhile.

EDIT:

NM. Found out that an 8x DVD-R can take 10 min. Geez.. it takes that long on my 10x CD burner.. TIME TO UPGRADE!!!

You have to remember thats its burning up to 4.7GB whereas a CD burner only has to burn 700mb.

I had one of these in a Mad Dog box, $80 after rebate and it was ok. It never made coasters, but the Memorex 4X DVD-R media only burned at 1X. Imation 2x DVD-R only burned at 1X. TDK DVD-RW 2x burned at rated speed though.

I ended up selling it to get a liteon. Dual format at everything burns at rated speed.

Says no driver and no cable on this deal. What kind of cable do I need to connect this? Just a regular ATA100 cable, or is there another thingy I need? If so, how much would that thingy cost, and what is it called?

You actually only need a ata-33 40 pin ribbon cable but a 80 wire will work.

I realize that. That's why I need to upgrade. 7x the space and with the same time is an improvement that I need to take advantage of.

I haven't found too much use for the HD Burn, what programs support it? Nero only does as a backup.

thats certainly not true... Nero can burn HD just like a CD or DVD........i know, cause i have done it, alot.
