"Sold" something on eBay, buyer hasn't paid...options?

So I'm selling an item on eBay (first time in years) and the auction closes and my buyer wins.

I send an invoice, wait 3 days, and still nothing. No comment, no payment, zip from the buyer. Send a message to the buyer, and while it has only been a day now, there's still no reply.

I very rarely sell anything on eBay, but I imagine this must happen semi frequently; someone bids on something they don't really want thinking they won't win, end up winning, don't want it/don't want to pay after all, and they disappear.

What's sort of "seller's etiquette" for this? Should I leave a neutral/negative review for him wasting my time? Can he then leave a negative review for me? I don't want to damage my seller's score just to get into a pissing match with someone.

What's the best course from here?

Maybe they're mailing you cash or a cheque in 2015? :awe:

I would wait maybe 7-14 days then put it back up for sale, I guess.

I would think Ebay has a FAQ that would answer this?

Never used Ebay personally, seems like you can get burned buying/selling fairly easy.

Read the Ebay faq, non paying bidders are common, and you can't leave negative on the buyer anymore.

Is the buyer a (0) or ?

You can cancel the sale. That happened to me on an item I was selling and I gave the bidder almost 2 weeks since it was near Thanskgiving.

Dealing with one right now.

He got in a bidding war with others at the last second, so I know he wanted it. Gasped in horror when I saw the (0). I had hoped to list it again last Sunday or send a second chance offer but I gave him the chance to respond instead. Now eBay requires me to was four more days and I can't list it this Sunday either. It's been long enough that I doubt the next buyers in line are going to be interested in second chance offers anymore.

Nothing to do but open a ticket and wait to close it... Ebay is horrible, can't see how people can use them. I have been burned way too many times.

ebay is terrible. you won't be getting paid. just move on and file a non paying bidder complaint and relist it.

ebay is not bad for buyers.

as a seller who doesn't use it for a living and just sells random crap on it every now and then, it's terrible.

That's my view as well. I rarely have issues buying stuff minus a couple of items listed as brand new and were refurbs. Selling however looks to be too much trouble and the shipping..omg how do people make any money with such insane shipping costs?

This is happening to me right now too.

Sold a sealed copy of Zelda:OoT for N64 and bidding was pushed over $160. Buyer never paid.

12 other gaming collectables sold at the same time. All those buyers paid immediately. Now it has been about 2 weeks.

From what I understand, eBay no longer allows negative feedback on buyers. They've re-structured *everything* in the interest of the buyer.

The last 10 transactions I have had on ebay have ended up with 7 non-paying bidders, 1 allegedly broken in transit, and 2 normal transactions.

I'm done with ebay at this point.

Never, ever had an issue buying or selling on ebay.
If you have a non-payer, just open a ticket and relist.

Not really sure what eBay could possibly do to prevent that.

they could easily allow an option that lets the user set up a minimum number of feedback required before you can bid on an item. or at least make it so that if they have 0 feedback or are registered in the past 30 days (whatever makes that stupid icon show up showing you as a "new user") that you cannot bid until you are authorized by the seller.

that would solve about 99.99% of the problems dealing with non paying bidders.

It's the same people doing it over and over again. They have control the issue. They own Paypal.

Let me say no to people who have a rating below a certain number.

Let me require a Paypal account (yes I can require buy it now to be paid immediately, but I should be able to do more than just that).

Let me require a Paypal account to be linked to a bank account. There would be a lot less NPB if the person had to deal with creating new bank accounts and linking them.

They should be controlling when a buyer non-pays and kills the ebay account. This can be linked through their Paypal account.

The fact that "all sales final" means nothing on ebay anymore, btw. A buyer can and will get their money back if they aren't happy because of any little issue. I had a buyer break something on install (they even provided me pics of the damage that they caused) and ebay settled the dispute by putting it on me. The answer from ebay was "This is the cost of doing business".

Like 99% of the auctions I bid on state they will cancel bids with 0 feedback. I believe you have the ability to cancel bids before the auction ends, so you'd have to keep up with it.
