why not?

If you're a casual gamer it probably won't matter, but if you actually care about playing games like CvS2 over Live! forget about it. There's an issue with the Xbox adapter, there's some weird latency on Live that causes the response of the X-Arcade to be about a quarter second slow. Making it impossible to play CvS2 on live effectively...you won't find anything about it on Xgaming.com but if you email Shawn he'll tell you all about it. They've been trying to fix it since february. They said they got an adapter that decreased the lag by about 40% but that's not good enough for CvS2.

Yup - there IS a latency problem.

I actually met with Shawn, the president, to demonstrate the problem. Unfortunately, they have not been able to find the solution. The lag only occurs on the xbox adapter - if you plan on using this with a PS2, Gamecube, or a PC - then you will be fine.

The problem also occurs offline - I notice a slight lag when I play games on the XBOX through this joystick. When playing on XBOX live, the problem is amplified.

How bad is the lag that occurs offline? I'm not planning on playing CvS2 on Live! but I am planning on playing some other fighting games offline. Is it bad enough that it really retracts from using the X-Arcade or is it not too noticeable offline? Just want to make sure cuz if its really awful I might consider cancelling my order. Thanks!

To get around the problem this stick has with the xbox, buy the playstation1/2 x-arcade adapter and then use a ps->xbox controller adapter. I haven't tried it myself, but i've read of others who have done this.

Is there lag with the other console adapters?

I have tried this with 2 different PS2 to XBOX adapters and it still does not work.

My theory is that the problem lies with the X-Arcade PCB. XBOX buttons are all analog and there is some type of conversion lag with the digital buttons. Unfortunately, X-Arcade joysticks are not officially licensed by XBOX. As a result, problems like the latency problem happen.

The guys at X-gaming sent me a beta XBOX adapter that they worked on - but it didn't fix the problem.

Again, the problem does not appear in other consoles - only the XBOX. So if you don't plan on using it for the XBOX, it should be fine.

LiQiCE,

If you're thinking about cancelling the order, will you just sell it to me instead? I was looking for this joystick but came by the deal too late. Or anyone else that is deciding to not keep their X-Arcade joystick, please let me know by PM. Thanks.

leonowski,

I believe XBOX and PS2 buttons are the same in that they can operate in analog or digital mode.

Anyone know of an online store that has PS2->XBOX adapters that will work? I've heard the Total Control converter works well, but I can't find it anywhere.

My friend has the PS2 to Xbox adapter and it lags too.

The problem is with the Xbox modified USB input, I would say.

I just talked with a Rep in Outpost and she said that the backorder is "under 50", BUT they dont have a preliminary date of when the new shipment is coming in. I hope it is soon. =)

leonowski,

Since you seem to have the most experience with the Xarcade Solo on the Xbox, can you tell me how bad the lag is offline? Slight lag that is hardly noticeable isn't bad, but if the lag is noticeable enough to negatively impact gameplay then I'd like to know about it before I open these suckers. Thanks for your help!

I just received mine today. Unfortunately I didn't read about the Xbox lag until my order shippied. Offiline I'm noticing some problems. Some games are ok, but a precise game like Street Fighter is hell to play. Combo timing is all messed up since you have to start the first hit sooner.

I also noticed that the stick doesn't respond at all in PS2 Primal. It's not the type of game you would want to use the joystick with, but I wanted to see how the digital stick handled the analog control scheme. I can't tell though, since none of the buttons even responded!

Has anyone had experience returning items to Outpost?

I've gotta wonder how much crack they were smoking at XGAMING not to notice this before they started selling the things...

Thanks for the info, BTW. I almost bought one.

The X-Arcade stick can be configured to use the digital pad or the analog stick. Find out what Primal uses and then switch to that mode. Look at the PS2 adapter instructions for help with switching the stick from digital to analog mode. You may need to switch back and forth during the game because some things in the game require digital control and others require analog (like digital for character selection or menu selection and analog for game play). Check the info on the back of the adapter box cover. It should have the instructions.

to change it to analog mode for the xbox, press the left side button (pinball button) then hold left and press Y (the middle button on the top row), to change back to digital, press the left side button, then hold left and press X (left button on the top row)

I want to thank the Original Poster for this deal!

I have been wanting an X-Arcade Solo for some time, but, put it off due to the high price. When, I saw this deal here, I could no longer resist.

I have to agree. The price in xgaming is 99.99 for a solo controller with an adapter of your choice. The one I got from Outpost required the additional purchase of an adapter...so the real cost is 49.99 + 19.99.....or a 30 dollar savings.

Darn it, it doesn't come with ANY adapter at all? I thought it came with a PC adapter? Grrr... Need to run to Fry's and get one before it arrives tomorrow then.

Oops, never mind, found my own answer on Outpost
A Universal Arcade controller that works with your PC right out of the box via a serial connection, the X-Arcade can also work with the Xbox, GameCube, or PSOne/PlayStation 2 with a seperate adapter for each console (PSOne and PlayStation 2 use the same adaptor).

Got my 2 X-Arcade Solos today, they're great! I don't really notice any lag while playing Soul Calibur II, or CPS1/CPS2 emulated games on my Xbox. It works just great!
