Soltek KT266a & T-bred 2100... Incompatible?

Hey. I have a Soltek 75DRV4 (Rev4.1) and I've tried installing a T-bred XP2100 with no luck. The board runs an XP2000+ (Palomino) with no problems whatsoever (of course). I've checked out the Soltek site and have seen little helpful info there. I did notice on the Epox site, though, that they list their KT266a motherboards as incompatible with the T-bred 2000+ and the T-bred 2100...



Any suggestions? Get another motherboard if I'm gonna run this chip?

You need to download the newest BIOS for Tbred support.

if that is the right revision, the BIOS will fix the problem... I have the SL-75DRV4 first revision and I am stuck with an XP1700+ Palomino for good.

Thanks, guys. I saw that BIOS file, but did not download it because it's designated 4.2 and I was under the impression that my board is Rev 4.1. I'm supposing though, that the BIOS is Rev 4.1, not the board.

I emailed Soltek regarding the board revision, It shows up right under the bottom PCI slot at the bottom of the board. you need a 1.1 I believe, I had a 1.0 and the BIOS cannot be updated. beware, unless your PCB is the right revision, it may not work, (Mine didn't)

Yep, flashing with an incompatible BIOS can be a disaster (better to suffer incompatibility than to suffer a DEAD mobo).

OK, I have flashed to the rev4.2 BIOS, and everything is running great. I will swap out the CPUs (removing XP2000+ Palomino and installing XP2100 T-bred) and post again....

No joy on the T-bred 2100, even with the 4.2 BIOS. I did notice on the Epox chart (mentioned above) that some of their 266a boards that run T-breds won't run the XP2100 T-bred. Odd, eh? Well thanks for the help. It might be time to upgrade to a KT333 or KT400 board, anyway.

Not odd. that's the problem I had.. that's why I was telling you about the revision of the PCB.. I have the same board and an XP1700+ TBred doesn't work, but an XP1700+ Palomino works just fantastic. You have the 1.0 board.

I have that same mobo and have since upgraded to an Nforce2 board and Xp2100. I think you'll get a lot more out of that chip if you upgrade the board. I did. Good Luck
