Solution to my desk problem: Fix my current desk.

Structural engineers, I demand your expertise. I need to figure out how to stop the shake in this damn desk while using it.

It shakes side to side and it's really fucking annoying!

I don't know what would cure it. Maybe thin bars that go in between the two stands that are locked in place with nuts on threaded ends? I don't know.

That's about great desks. This is a thread about fixing my desk.

I'm going to just try to fix this piece of shit before I go spending $100+ on a new desk.

You need an X brace across the back. Make it out of some 1/4'' rod or something similar so it looks like it belongs after you paint it black.

That's definitely not going to be easy since there's nothing I could easily attach the brace to. :hmm:

How much room is there between the glass on the legs and the metal legs? If there is enough room you could drill a hole in the metal and use a threaded rod to form a cross brace.

Honestly I would just spend 50$ a get a decent cheap desk. Thats what I did and its working just fine.

If that's indeed his desk, and it does look like the same one, putting the keyboard drawer in place would go a long way towards stabilizing the desk...

Also, are all the connections on the back good and tight?
(the OP might need to find a man to check them)

This is not a question for structural engineers. This is a question for anyone with a functioning brain. A little logic, some spatial reason, a bit of common sense, and you're all set.

1) Get some tools, and make sure the current connections are solid.
2) Put in the keyboard tray. It will increase the stability.

Also, where do you do your homework? Studying? Reading? On the corner of that desk, perhaps? That brings me to #3.

3) Build a new desk.

I don't have any of that stuff. Keyboard drawer broke itself within days of use. It's a total POS.

Tighten the screws on any cross beams. Install a new crossbeam where the keyboard tray used to sit if necessary.

Everything is tight as it can be. The addition of new hardware is going to be what I'll have to do. Any ideas where to get proper beams?
