I have Alienware 17 R2 (2015).
Suddenly the system has stopped recognizing the power adaptor (I get the message at boot before O/S load).
The message say that's power adaptor unrecognized so system will automatically reduce power usage.
As a result it is throttling my CPUs to 800hz from 2.4Hz (4710HQ).
I changed the power management setting so that min setting is still 100% CPU so when I boot with battery or even just disconnect the power adaptor the CPU frequency goes back to maximum but the moment the laptop is connected to adaptor it drops back down again.
What can I do short of buying another adaptor (which is not guarantee of a fix since the problem could be on laptop side of connection).
Is there a setting that I can access that changes this power saving 'feature'? or turn it off?
Just to be clear this does not seem to be controlled from regular battery power management settings.
The only other thing that I have tried is speedstep in Bios. Disabling it did not help.

PS. The adaptor powers the laptop (battery does not drain) but it is not charging the battery

After 4 hours of trouble shooting, I post here and within 2 min more of trying I find the solution (see below). I am leaving the thread with my original post incase anyone else runs into this problem:
"The battery is not getting a signal from the charger as to what charger is being used. This signal is sent via the small wire you see in the middle of the DC power plug. Either the wire in the charger cord is broken, or the connection from the laptop DC socket to the system board has broken. Both are common, with the socket problem more often. The first thing to do is either try your charger on another laptop, or try another charger on yours. If the charger is good, then the power socket needs to be replaced. Fortunately, on the E1525 (and the M1530), the power socket is not soldered to the system board, but is a small board that plugs into the system board. It will be repaired under warranty, but is inexpensive and not too difficult to replace yourself if out of warranty.
If the charger is bad, you can purchase official Dell chargers from third-party suppliers for much less than Dell charges. I would get the 90 watt charger, even if the laptop came with the 65 watter. Dell supplies some laptops with 58 watt batteries with the 90 watt unit."
