[SOLVED!] Audio problems.

XP SP3, Opteron 165 system.

I think that the sound card itself isn't the problem, as it works, just only with certain functions.

Works:

Playing video in MPC
Playing MP3's in Foobar
Audio works in WoW

These are the things that work, as far as I can tell.

No sound:

Youtube video plays, no audio
Windows system sounds

These issues started manifesting itself after installing MPC:Home Cinema, and the latest FFDShow, which seem to be the likeliest culprits...The sound card itself (Turtle Beach Santa Cruz) doesn't appear to be dying, just doesn't want to play anything that's directsound/directmusic.

Anyone have any suggestions what I need to toggle/change?

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for the sound card?

Yes, I have tried reinstalling drivers for the card, and have even tried moving over to the onboard audio, with the same results.

However, booting over to a linux livecd (pclinuxos 2010 kde) shows everything working as normal.

As I said, I think the problem is that the registry here.

Probably didn't unregister ffdshow upon trying to upgrade versions, and this is messing things up.

As I said, the audio works! Well, for some things at least under this windows install.

It wouldn't be out of the question to try a repair install too, as this install's somewhere between 4-5 years old.

I had the same problem, except I imagine your windows sounds are currently disabled and not a real problem.
