I bet ya there's gonna be an increase in the number of crewmen arming themselves.

probably not even needed. Just have one of those flying gizmos cover the ship and send a fighter jet to gun it out of the water.

What's with these pirates forming fleets and plotting revenge? Are they that stupid, or are they just ignorant?
The second they band together as a force, it will bring down forces like the U.S. Navy to obliterate them.
Haven't they learned from the past, or from movies at least? Maybe we need to "pirate" them some copies of "Pirates of the Carribean".

You realize there are a number of people currently held hostage by pirate that are probably going to be systematically killed as "revenge" right? This isn't the guy from GTA: Somalia wagging his wraithlike fist at a locust plague.

Hostages are their source of revenue.
It would be disadvantageous of them to kill the hostages.
Not saying they won't kill hosties... but it would be disadvantageous on their end..

Ok, lets hear what your solution is....

Mine is to kill them, sure some hostages will die, but they will think twice before taking more people in the future. Dont negotiate, just kill them, all of them.

Killing the hostages breaks down their business model. No hostages = no cash = no reason to be a pirate = no hostage.

Also there is a reason why U.S. doesn't negotiate with kidnappers, the second you do that you put incentive on more kidnappings.

Fixed.

It'll be cheaper to shoot them with those machine gun equipped fighter jets no ?
Missles will be too expensive.. and the boats are reusable.

My point was that to ROFL at the pirates "vowing revenge" shows a clear lack of awareness as to the complexity of the issue. Simply "blowing them away" is impossible, since they are numerous and their leadership isn't out at sea. Feel free to suggest that the solution is as simple as hurling artillery at every small ship in the Gulf of Oman. Unfortunatley, this wouldn't solve the underlying cause of the problem and it is likely that a few hundred innocent people will die.

We promise to send more drones, too.
Hell, we'll be sending some guys with a score to settle with some of those folks.
Once Xe gets a contract large enough, they will deploy their own forces and it'll be a different story. Xe has it's own airforce and will be using all their tools to protect Commercial Interests. I would hazard a guess that Xe has more than a few guys who lost friends or flesh of their own in Somalia.
Those pirates won't know which ships have hardened their defenseive posture until they commit.

Exactly. In cases where their positions are known, they'll just be throwing away what leverage they have to not get their shit obliterated. The other countries can do what they want about their own victims. Hopefully pirates will think twice about attacking any ships flying US flags.

And who seriously said to do that? The solution is quite simple: don't negotiate, demand they give up and leave otherwise do exactly what was done to these 3 idiots.

err, how does that help. You would not know they were pirates until they boarded at which time it is too late for a missile to do any good.

Exactly. Problem is the hostages these pirates took. If it weren't for the hostages, all these guys would be dead before they could say "ARRRRRRR!".
