I'm sure you can read.

I was not feeling Eminem's bad boy "fuck my mom and my baby's mother" rap. And besides, my mother didn't want me listening to that anyway. So, I didn't. Never got into him. Never got into his stupid bleached hair he was rocking back then. I hated his voice. I honestly thought he was a parody rapper.

When he got a little more fame, his rap changed a bit. I'm not going to lie and say he doesn't have any good records out there...but Top 5 rapper good? Hell no. Never.

And nobody was talking about Macklemore 15 years ago. Don't see how he applies here. Macklemore doesn't compare to Eminem at all..and I highly doubt he will get any play on HipHop stations like Eminem has.

15 years ago he was 13 years old...so yes, I don't doubt that no one was talking about him 15 years ago.

He's all over the radio currently, and has performed at most major music festivals and award shows this year...I'm sure he'd be devastated to know that he hasn't lived up to your standards though.

I don't agree with your analysis of the situation at all, but I can't hate on your picks. At least you didn't say something ridiculous like lil wayne.

And for what reason do you feel that Eminem is one of the top rappers?

I just want someone to lay it out for me...there are so many greats that came before and after him. He is really not that amazing.

Good, that puts us around the same age.

And way to dodge my statement. I never said he wouldn't be on the radio. I said he probably won't be all over the Hip Hop stations like Eminem has. I've only heard Macklemore on Top40 stations.
Who cares about the music festivals? Did I say he would never perform anywhere?

I'm so sorry you are blinded by your Macklemore fandom. I didn't say most of the stupid shit you penned responses to.

His ability to paint a picture with words is unparalleled and really sets him apart from other rappers, IMO. I also find his style very listenable, when compared to say...Jay Z.

Macklemore is the 2013 version of Vanilla Ice, The fact he's white is the only thing he has in common with Eminem. There is no reason to mention them in the same breath unless the thread title was "name 2 totally different rappers" a lot of rapping greats have given Em lots of respect. Rakim said if he was black he would be the Ali of rap. Macklemore has 1 catchy song and no great rappers will be saying shit about him in 10 years.

And name any rapper that can't do that?

Not knocking your opinion, but I was looking for something that would absolutely set him apart from any other rapper.

Even Riff Raff can paint a picture with words.

I'd say the stories he tells in his music. He also was really good at laying down tracks that sounded great.

I think his stories are in the same mold as Tupac. There is some sense of realism to the songs that hit home with me.

None of them like Eminem. We can agree to disagree because I do find him that far apart from any other rapper.

Does his ability to tell a story make him Top 5 material? I think it was "The Source" that said Eminem was the greatest rapper alive or some shit like that.

Very controversial.

You're adorable.

I think its cute that Macklemore is the only thing you can spit out about Rap.

That's like me entering a thread about good Country music and bringing up Taylor Swift.

Commercial success doesn't equate to a quality/good product. It just means someone has convinced a large number of people with questionable intelligence to part with their money.

McDonalds is everywhere and sells a ton of food, I suppose you would make the argument that because of this, they make great food.

Not really the same at all. Riff Raff's stuff is like doodles on scrap paper, Em is oil on canvas.

Maybe his radio exposure was a poor example.

Have you listened to any of his albums? I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm genuinely curious.

There are very few who use multi-syllable rhyme scheme as consistently or effectivly as he can. Rakim immediately comes to mind, but not many others do.

Em's great but people who say he's by far the greatest ever are overdoing it. Jeremy Lin in the NBA's similar, his skin color makes people give him far too much credit. I'd say Em's easily in my top 20 but I don't think he fits in my top 10.

Yea, Top 20 for sure.

I'm still salty that Jay Electronica is not a thing. Jeez...

I will give Eminem's HipHop station, Shade45 on XM major kudos for not playing wack shit. I can listen to that station all day.

You sound like Rush Limbaugh talking about Donovan McNabb.
