So it's a BIOS problem instead of hardware problem? It's gotta be, becaue otherwise GTS will be affected also. Remember GTX and GTS are using the same G80 core.Originally posted by: JBT
Update #3 : Only some 8800GTX cards are affected due to wrong resistor value by a contract manufacturer but to be safe, all the card makers are recalling their cards

Then again, if it's a BIOS problem, it should affect all GTX, not some of them?

This would be too strange. I think it is a hoax, seems like many cards have been tested with no word of this.

Read through the big 8800GTX thread at HardForum. A certain combination of settings in F.E.A.R. caused what the owner called "artifact hell."
His card's an eVGA, btw.

Hi there
Yes this is true!
Our stock has already been replaced with boards that don't have this issue. So were still on schedule for launch day on both GTS and GTX.

We have been working with them to pull these back and change the resistor to the correct value.
We believe we will still be able to hit our hard launch this week (Nov 8th) with the new GeForce 8800 GTX boards.
So problem solved

Apparently the rumor is true. However, most of the affected stock should already have been replaced and the replacement stock should be in retailers hands.

NVIDIA recalls GeForce 8800 GTX batch
Author: Tim Smalley
Published: 6th November 2006
As many of you know, NVIDIA is launching its next-generation GeForce 8-series products later this week. However, there has been a manufacturing problem with a batch of the GeForce 8800 GTX cards.
NVIDIA has issued us with an official statement regarding the problems:
"Some GeForce 8800 GTX boards that were built through our contract manufacturer had a simple BOM error - wrong resistor value. GeForce 8800 GTS boards are not effected by this.
These GeForce 8800 GTX boards were shipped to our Add-In-Card partners.
We have been working with them to pull these back and change the resistor to the correct value.
We believe we will still be able to hit our hard launch this week (Nov 8th) with the new GeForce 8800 GTX boards.
This is a testament to our execution as well as the execution of our Add-In-Card partners.
Adam Foat, Product PR Manger, Northern Europe."
Clearly someone has made a mistake during the manufacturing process and NVIDIA is going to have to pull out all of the stops to meet its launch date. However, we are glad to see that NVIDIA is addressing these problems before the product gets into the hands of consumers.
Look out for our review of the products later this week - we'll be keeping a close eye on stock levels when the product launches.

I hope this won't result in a severe GTX shortage on launch. I'm getting a GTS myself, but I don't want to see double demand for it if GTX cards go AWOL.
So those of you with $650 (or more) in hand waiting for one, hold onto it. Don't steal my GTS!
