Well that sucks. I hope that the MSI cards from Ewiz were unaffected. I was hoping to get the card delivered on launch day but this may push it back until next week.

Definitely ONE GTX!!! Save those GTS's for us that can't afford the GTX's!!!

I think we'll find out that the difference (outside of 3DMock) between a GTS and GTX isn't worth the extra $200, but yes by all means, I'd personally like to see the initial demand completely soaked up by the GTXes.

Hi there

Yes this is true!

Our stock has already been replaced with boards that don't have this issue. So were still on schedule for launch day on both GTS and GTX.

We have been working with them to pull these back and change the resistor to the correct value.

We believe we will still be able to hit our hard launch this week (Nov 8th) with the new GeForce 8800 GTX boards.

So problem solved

So those of you with $650 (or more) in hand waiting for one, hold onto it. Don't steal my GTS!

tis a good cover up tho, (though i just like conspiracy)

havent made enough boards.... oh dear resistor problem, gotta have em all back to be fixed, blame on third party, can now rest shortage on a issue out of their control, still claim full hard launch, no one has any proof to say otherwise

lol not far fetched, but wrong lol

conspiracy FTW!

Not sure if you guys have seen this yet, but: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4819

Seems to be some conflicting reports as to whether they were all recalled or not...

As long as this doesn't have any significant effect on pricing, I'm happy .

Isnt the GTS ~450-500?

Depends on the manufacturer (moreso than I would have expected).

You can't have a recall on a card that hasn't launched. EVGA stopped shipment on 3200 cards worldwide, but it's not really a huge problem. An identical problem happened with some R580s during the launch.

Verified from an independent source that it was only 3200 cards. Nothing really big to be worried about.

That's great but EVGA wasn't the only one affected........

Supposedly its a bad resistor. Supposed to be a 30ohm instead of a 50ohm I heard. The fault lies mainly with the card manufacturer and not nVidia. Not all G80s have this problem. eVGA seems to be having the most bad cards. So if you get a G80 look at the resistors. If they are 30ohm your fine. If its 50ohm then RMA it.

Hopefully, this won't delay step-up availability, since it seems that the latest news is telling us that many of the cards have been repaired and shipped back.

Since the problem was found before actual launch I'd say that most bad cards will be caught and sent back for replacement/repair. Some will probably leak through to the consumer though. Only downside is that it might stifle availbility of some versions like eVGA's. Kinda depends on how well the card manufacturer and the stores are working together. I dont think Step Up will be greatly affected but its hard to say.

Upon initial reading, it was evident that nVidia manged to dodge a bullet (being as they discovered it before the world-wide launch).

But now after reading Dailtech's report, it doesn't seem like it was that big of an issue, anyways. And I'm even more relieved to see it won't affect the launch.

I wish I hadnt used my 8800GTX fund to buy a $1800 DLP TV last night. I guess now I really will wait for R600

This won't affect availability for eVGA.

Good to hear. Any news on the step-up program? Ah, it was worth a try. Guess I'll see on the 8th like every other impatient person.

For some reason I don't really like the way this statement sounds from
VR-Zone:
Update #4 : For those cards that are already shipped out, card makers will send the correct resistors to the distributors and they will be handling the soldering work themselves. There should be no delay or minor delay in the sale of the 8800GTX cards.

Who are these distributors that will be soldering boards? Is this manufacturers or retailers? I don't like the sounds of someone rushing around with a soldering iron. Be on the lookout for rogue solder drips on cards.

They said distributors, so probably somebody in between. It'd be pretty funny if the retailers had to do this themselves though. Imagine the look on the face of an unsuspecting customer: "Uh, we need to fix this up a bit." *whips out soldering iron*

This launch has had more forum and phony leaks than most. This last is the weirdest. I also would not be too surprised with a soft launch or higher rma than the 7900gt. What the heck, should be a great card.
