i wonder what we're crunching for them right now! i haven't seen this much work available in a LONG time...no specific explanation on the LHC@Home message boards yet...

Think it went to over 1/2 at 1 point! Now down to ~1200.

Yea I thought it was odd there was no explanation considering the large number of WUs.

Our bad, somehow we missed this from March 16th .

First, in reply to a recent query about 2014 workload, thanks to Msssimo:
"The majority of the 2014 studies will be devoted to LHC upgrade and the rest to understand the nominal machine. I do not expect any increase in workload when approaching the LHC re-start in 2015, on the other hand, we will all be locked up in the control room and the resources for performing the simulations will be reduced."

From this thread

I restarted A@H a bit late the other day, ~6 WUs expired :$, still I crunched a good number of LHC WUs .

A smaller burst of WUs available atm (currently ~1500).

Should be enough to gain me a place in the team , (to 14th).

it is the sister project to LHC@Home. like LHC@Home, it simulates particle accelerator tests and collisions (simulations of full-fledged tests of the LHC at CERN in fact). i don't know the specific differences between the two projects, other than the fact that T4T@H makes use of the Oracle VirtualBox VM and uses a wrapper to make it work with BOINC. T4T@H tasks run for 24 hours +/- regardless of what CPU you have or how much work was done.

a brief description at wikipedia says that LHC@Home Classic (SixTrack) is used to upgrade and maintain the LHC at CERN, while LHC@Home 2.0 (Test4Theory@Home) simulates high energy particle collisions...who knows what that means exactly, or how accurate it is...

Ah no chance of me passing you on RAC now then .

Btw, tasks rdy 1,053,687 !!

Going by the unsent tasks number, averaged crunch time (4.26hrs) & users in last 24hrs (4960) it would take ~5.3 weeks to crunch all those WUs! (assuming all those 4960 users crunched 24/7).

i've never seen this much LHC@Home work ready to send...EVER! in fact i've never seen it go above ~500,000 until now. Mark, I have no idea what the current influx of work pertains to exactly...i'd check the LHC message boards to see if anything is mentioned about it there...

...btw, i've been on the project since December of 2005 Mark.
