Caroline - Oh god, not Carol.

This brings up an important point when picking out baby names. If you pick a name like Caroline, be sure that you like the shortened version (Carol) or don't choose it.

We specifically chose a name that doesn't have a shortened version. We also chose the names we wanted rather than relative's names. One thing you might not think about is how the relatives will feel whose name didn't get chosen. If the baby's named after your grandma, then there are 3 grandma's names who didn't get picked.

The only relative's name I would use is my deceased mother's name for a middle name, but we had a boy, so that wasn't an option.

Congrats on the baby! My wife and I are expecting also. Our due date is December 27, and we are also trying to pick out names. We like family names so we narrowed it down to Ruth Elizabeth for a girl or Isaac for a boy. My wife has access to an ultrasound machine whenever she wants scanned and while it is still early, it is almost certainly a boy. To find names we looked at our family trees and also just read over lists of baby names online. I have to admit that I am still worried about nicknames for Isaac. You have plenty of time to pick a name, we are just crazy when it comes to planning.
