Damn, man, very sorry to hear this

My brother, only 33, was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer back in January. I'm not going to go into detail, but the most recent news has not been very good. Same sort of thing: he's a health nut and a physician. All of his friends are doctors...so it's a quite a shock.

Anyway, I can appreciate what you and your family will be going through over the next year or more, as we're all still in that initial stage of shock. One thing I can suggest is to pay careful attention to your diet from here on out. There are a lot of natural diets, heavy on teas, that can work wonders when supplementing the treatments that you will endure. Look specifically at what others with intestinal cancer have done, especially those that have beaten the odds. Also, be sure to seek multiple opinions and recommendations from various physicians. Don't just speak with general oncologists but GI specialists.

Whatever you do, remain optimistic, and Good luck.

How did he find out he had it?

There is hope that it's a mistake.

I had a doctor tell me I had oral cancer in my mouth once. Turned out it was just a sore and nothing to worry about, but it scared the every living shit out of me for a week.

Best of luck to you no mater what the results are.

you should've punched that mofo in the face for giving you a false diagnoses and screwing with you.

Was a dentist that saw it and said it looked like cancer. So I went to another doctor to get it checked out.

Never went back to that dentist after that though.

So the last few weeks I have been having lots of stomache aches. Some were pretty severe. At first I thought maybe I was just eating something my body didnt agree with, but after they went on for weeks I went in to get it checked out. The biopsy showed that I have intestinal cancer. I go back in today for more tests to get a better scope of how spread it is and what my chances are, but I cant believe this happened to me. I'm 24, perfect health, I run at least 75 miles a week... I just dont understand.

I told my GF...she took it pretty rough. Much worse than I did. I feel really bad for her having to deal with this, esp since she has only been seeing me for 3/4 weeks. I have not told my family yet. I was going to see what the further testing today shows before I sit my family down to break the news. Part of me feels guilty about doing it...my parents were going to go to vegas this weekend for their anniversary. I think I might let them have their trip then tell them when they get back... I dont know.

Well I just had to get that off my chest...

When all of you wake up tomorrow morning I want you to be thankful for your health, dont take it for granted please.

Jeez I'm sorry....were you losing weight as well? Or was it just the stomach aches?

Nick, I'm incredibly shocked to hear that. I really hope that the cancer has been caught early enough, and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Cheers to a fellow runner and a great guy. We're all pulling for you.

Did he say it was cancer or just that it looked like cancer? Big difference there.

I would suggest having an excuse ready. E.g. "I wanted to wait to tell you after they confirmed it and when I could tell you in person."

That said, Good luck and best wishes to you.

Yea that sounds reasonable, best of luck to you.

Whatever you do, Nick, maintain your sense of humor. It may be your best ally throughout this stage of your life.

depending on the outcome today, I'd suggest starting up your own caring bridge page. It's a good way for others to keep track of your progress and it's a good organization. Helps to cut down on the flood of phone calls for constant updates and whatnot that you will not want to deal with.

...though I guess people would do the same with Facebook?

Very sorry to hear about your situation and certainly hope for the best. I wanted to also recommend something like Caring Bridge as there may be a lot of family and friends that you aren't as close with that would still like to be updated on your status without having to be intrusive and ask. A friend of the family has been using this site for over a year now to share updates and different things that they've been doing both related to the cancer treatment and also in life in general. It's a really nice way to share whats going on and keep people informed.

Dude, not the time.

I'm a person that finds humor in almost anything, and isn't offended easily.

But damn, Fox5 is right. This isn't the time.

We wish you the best, and hope it's either misdiagnosed or very early stage and you'll be fine. My stepdad was diagnosed with cancer last year. It was one of the most difficult times for him, myself, and family (caused his mom to have a mild heart attack actually). You're in our thoughts, and we wish you the best.

Please keep us informed throughout your treatment. for a speedy recovery.

The cousin of my best friend's GF is 17 and was rushed to the hospital this past Monday due to his stomach swelling to half it's size and immense pain... He was diagnosed with intestinal cancer and had surgery yesterday and they removed 99% of it. I could barely believe that someone as young as 17 years old could have cancer, but last I heard he is doing well and will have to go through some type of treatment in order to make sure they get everything.

I hope that everything goes well and best of luck.

Very sorry to hear this man, especially for one so young. I can only guess at how you feel but if its anything like my younger sister (she's 38) who has breast cancer and ovarian cancer, I'm sure you're scared. Keep a positive attitude and hopefully they caught it very early.

I'd be willing to get in on this. I know we haven't met yet (despite living in the same metroland) but I do have a friendly ear.

Good luck man.
Nothing sucks more than hearing news like this. I was told I had AIDs when I was 17. That was the worst 2 weeks of my life. Back then it took a while to get test results back in so I was on pins and needles waiting for the 2nd test.

You're young, you can recover from this pretty easily.

Just told my coworker about you. He informed that he had intestinal cancer 4 years ago. He went thru several months of radiation treatment then surgery then six months of chemotherapy. He worked during the radiation treatments and chemotherapy. And was given a 5 year survival rate of 85%, he's 55 now.

If you interested, I can get him in touch with you. Send me a PM if you're interested.
