Very sorry to hear this. I hope that it's very treatable and that you're back to normal quickly.

Sorry to hear that. Stay tough, you'll beat it.

local is good. surgery should get it all. they may want to do some short chemo to make sure it's gone. your otherwise good health is good for that.

I would transfer all your assets to your parents asap. There is a good chance you're going to go bankrupt.

So the last few weeks I have been having lots of stomache aches. Some were pretty severe. At first I thought maybe I was just eating something my body didnt agree with, but after they went on for weeks I went in to get it checked out. The biopsy showed that I have intestinal cancer. I go back in today for more tests to get a better scope of how spread it is and what my chances are, but I cant believe this happened to me. I'm 24, perfect health, I run at least 75 miles a week... I just dont understand.

I told my GF...she took it pretty rough. Much worse than I did. I feel really bad for her having to deal with this, esp since she has only been seeing me for 3/4 weeks. I have not told my family yet. I was going to see what the further testing today shows before I sit my family down to break the news. Part of me feels guilty about doing it...my parents were going to go to vegas this weekend for their anniversary. I think I might let them have their trip then tell them when they get back... I dont know.

Well I just had to get that off my chest...

When all of you wake up tomorrow morning I want you to be thankful for your health, dont take it for granted please.

wait...wat? u told your gf of 3 weeks before your own dam family? erm... something is wrong here.

His family is going on their anniversary trip. He doesn't want to spoil it for them. I would do the same.

sorry to be the different one... but if im dying... the last thing im going to do is not tell anyone so they can have an enjoyable anniversary...

your family is going to want to spend as much time with you as they can...
OP is being selfish by not telling them.

Incorrect.

As far as my decision with my parents... they are not wealthy and rarely take vacation trips. They have been looking forward to this for a long time... I feel its the best decision to let them enjoy a few days together before I turn their world upside down. Also a factor in this decision is I do not have all of the facts/information yet to be able to properly tell them the situation I am in. Its hard to keep something like this from them for a few days, but I just want to see them happy for a bit before their world comes crashing down around them.

I am, however, going into the city this weekend to spend the day with my sister and break the news to her. My parents and my younger brother(who lives with them) will wait until Tuesday.

You are making the correct decision regarding your news, despite what the few ninkompoops want to claim. There is absolutely nothing selfish about your decision--in fact's it's quite the opposite of selfish.

besides, it's your life to live and not some anonymous internet dude's.

Sucks about the news, but 75 miles a week? That isn't healthy. There are much better ways to do cardio that won't ruin the rest of your body. When you get better, I suggest swimming or biking.

It was 100 or more a week in college. I competed in NCAA XC and track national championships, and was decently close to going to the olympic trials. I can handle a piddly 75 a week

Jeez I'm sorry....were you losing weight as well? Or was it just the stomach aches?

Not that I know of. Although I do not weigh myself regularly. The stomache aches were/are brutal though. /shudder

btw Nick, you're close enough to me, we should grab a beer (if that's ok to have?) and talk it out if you're down

I'd be willing to get in on this. I know we haven't met yet (despite living in the same metroland) but I do have a friendly ear.

You live in DeKalb, no?

I would rather not see posts that talk about death/dying. Im trying my hardest to keep that out of my mind (trust me, it is not easy), I would like it to not be present in this thread please.

Thanks

I know it must be scary as hell to hear that. Focus your energies on taking care of yourself as your doctor advises.

I wish you all the best, and I am confident you will overcome this totally.
