Bought my Durango back in January with 39k miles on it. Also picked up the 4 year extended warranty with premium coverage. Was a hefty price, but knowing I want this car for at least the next 4 years I went with it. Well, last week driving to work the car lost all power when trying to shift into 3rd.

Got the call from the tranny shop today to find out I am getting a brand new transmission and the warranty covers all of it but my deductible.

$1785 for warranty
$2600 for tranny
$100 out of my pocket for deductible

You saved $700? Good for you...but in a manner of speaking, you were lucky the tranny failed and gave you your money's worth

The only extended warranties that seeem to be worth it are car and laptop warranties.

I got a brand new laptop thanks to my extended warranty

so when the next BestBuy salesman ask if you want extended warranty, we should buy it?

Good for you.

I bought extended warranties for both my Camaro and Trailblazer. I haven't had to use either one of them yet.

I said some. As for BestBuy, hell no. Unless of course you are buying a laptop.

Depends on how the cars are maintained. Extended warrantied only exist to make the car dealers more money.

I rarely get warrenties, but the $300 warrenty on my projection tv paid off as it cost $1400 to fix it(new tubes).

My mother-in-law had about the same experience. Her "97 Mazda 626 had it's transmission go out in 2001. Her extended warranty covered it. Now we bought the car from her with a brand new tranny in it

Yeah, but who knows what the previous owner could have towed around that could have messed the transmission up bad?

Imports are priced competitively, but the quality is disproportionately greater than domestic. No money wasted on warranties, no time wasted.

Heck yeah, you get free batteries with those service plans! Considering a battery cost anywhere from $150 to $300...for $200 for three years, it's worth it. Get two batteries and it already pays for itself.

It's not bad for other stuff too, if the product is DEVO(Devoid Of Operation) then they just give you a new one. A lot of laptops are and a lot of TV's are DEVO. Most small products are DEVO. From working at Best Buy, I have to say...on most stuff it is worth it. Cars on the other hand, it seem like it paid off this one time. Most people say not to get them on a new car, but to me it seems like it would be good in the end....but who knows.

We got one for our new car that is pretty foolproof. if you don't use it, they pay you back. Simple as that. It was $1200 to extend a 3/36000 to 7/75000.
If you do use it they will pay back the difference.

typical mopar trannies crapping out. Dakotas, Durangos, Caravans, and Stratus's all have chronically crappy auto trannies.
