Excellent. No one in their right mind wants to see AMD go under, even the most die hard Intel fan boy has to admit that competition is good.

That's right.

I think we should all create accounts at AMDzone and spread positive FUD about AMD!

Did the cnet article get updated? Now it justs say that Alienware is seeing respectable demand, while Falcon NW sees virtually no demand.

really? don't seem that way to me but I guess for average folks, they don't care about OC then AMD machines with slightly price breaks makes lot of sense.

Are you saying that some of our diehard intel fanboys aren't in their "right" minds?

no were saying the diehard fans are idiots because without competition the budget line chips will cost 300 like they used to a very long time ago.

And no diehard intel fan wants price increases.

Im hoping for the pricetag to be below $1000 right now on there high end systems. :T

I would jump at 500 for a X class processor.

My brother went ahead and bought the Phenom 9550 for nearly the same price as the q6600.

I guess he trusts AMD's quality.

I think he overpaid, he could of gotten a 9850 for that price probably. In my case I was quite happy with my socket 939 system, it was plenty fast. I figured the Phenom could only be faster (and so far has proven to be) and I just really wanted to build a new system, the upgrade bug bit... my 939 system had served me well for a long time. Anyway, I went with AMD again not because I thought it was 'better' but because all I've really ever used is AMD chips (my last Intel was a 486) and have been happy with them. Not that I wouldn't have been happy with an Intel either, just that I've had nothing but good experiences with AMD, so I got another one of their chips. But obviously Intel isn't in the position they're in because they make bad products either.

I don't think there's any reason to chastise anyone for buying AMD right now.

I agree, there is no more reason to be negative about the value-proposition of an AMD platform as there is to be negative about the value-proposition of a Mac platform.

Apple is profitable because they smartly manage their cost structure within the confines of their single-digit marketshare. AMD needs to continue to pare down so they can increase the odds of living to see another day.

Intel needs to be smart enough to allow AMD to profitably survive just as Microsoft is keen to not rub out Apple's OS, there is value to Intel's shareholders in having a strategy that skirts anti-trust triggers at the DOJ.

Nvidia is pushing a paradigm shift that will hurt intel more than it will hurt AMD since AMD is 'already there'. This paradigm shift is GPU to CPU matching and showing you don't need as much CPU to squeeze the most of of GPU and its more cost effective to match the GPU to purpose than to consistently tweak a CPU to hit that performance.

So a Phenom/Spider platform may be less of a brute force than an Intel but dollar for dollar its a better engineered platform and especially so when the 4series cards come out. Again, you could clock an intel higher and probably get better 3dmarks but its all about the experience to the end user and the price/performance.

I think the 780g and the 4850 be combination with a secondary card for Crossfire is probably the best value there is and i wouldn't be surprised if more companies pick this up not only for its price/performance but also is long term cost & power savings.

No doubt Intel reigns king on the pure performance side but that sure as heck doesn't distract from the fact AMD has no problems delivering a quad core chip that performs stellar for less than 200 bucks.

meh.. all my servers that i build are amd based. except for 2 of my asterisk servers, they're pentium D. i like building amd servers, great bang for the buck. there's no way i'm doing any overclocking on a production server, so they work out great for price vs performance.
