Where do all the people living in those condos work? Most of Canadas business is handled in Calgary or Toronto.. What does Vancouver have?

That is disgusting, I was born in Vancouver and can't believe what it has turned into. Now it is nothin but oversized buildings and too many people in a once beautiful place. It's not unlike most other places in the western U.S.

We may not have the big manufacurers, oil or HQ's that Calgary and TO have. But many large forest companies and tech companies (EA, Crystal Decisions etc). Also Telus & other companies like Rathaeon (sp?) etc. To a lesser extent the entertainment industry (lions gate films) and the tourism industry (cruise ships & whistler) but that is slowly being hurt by our raising dollar.

We are also the gateway to Asia and we have quite a bit of sea traffic.

Lots of jobs to go around though with a low 6.4% unemployment rate .

Those condos start at 300k for a 1br + den. Funny thing is those ones you see under construction were sold out 2 or 3 years ago.

Bah. There's a website that has a lot of comparison pictures from the 1970s to today. They found pictures from the 70s and then went to the same spots today and re-shot the same views. The difference is amazing. In the 70s it was all drab and industrial. False creek looked like crap, now it's gorgeous.

Buying a place in the city of Vancouver is really expensive yeah. A nice place is half a mil for sure, the average house where I am is about 700k. Of course I just rent an apartment

Renting is affordable pretty much everywhere, albeit probably more expensive than most cities. The housing gets cheaper the farther from downtown you get though. 250-300k will get you a decent place about 30-40 mins from downtown.
