Wow.

When I was younger I played soccer. I was the only girl on the team, and the coach decided to stick me as goalie once. The shirt, which hung to about the waist on the guys, draped me like a dress. I wasn't very good at the position.

But my team did snag first place.

just dont get why a lot of Americans dont like soccer, people say they score only once or twice which makes it boring. To me, this is the best part of the game, it builds up the anticipation and also because this is a highly skilled sport, its awfully hard to score. so you appreciate a lot more of a soccer goal than say 2 points from a basket.

damn...you're right! good eyes....so it must just be the camera angle....

It did curve. It also hit the post. It was going well wide when it first took off.
You put enough spin on the ball and it's pretty easy to make a "banana" kick.

I also noticed my company's logo in the background .

As far as that first one with the save, if I was that guys coach I'd be tearing him a new one for doing that.

oh my, Are you kidding me. It did hit the post, but he hit that with the left foot around the wall. not an easy shot. It would have been alot easier with the right foot.

you can do a lotta things with a soccer ball. I've seen direct goals from a corner kicks, that takes a lot of skill.


Also, the ball DID curve, and it also hit the goal post. There's no way in hell you can score a goal like that without curving it.

In our version of football, you get to beat the hell out of your opponents. Legally make hard physical contact, not sneaking in some contact or only tripping them up, but rather, the whole point is to knock them on their @ss. As someone said before, "Football, not baseball, should be 'America's Pasttime'. What could be more American than beating someone down and taking their territory by force, all while wearing funny looking pants?"

I like our version of football too, but you cant really compare them. Its apples and oranges. American football is like an action movie that makes your heart pound every second with its bone crushing tackles. European football is like a suspense movie that builds up your anxiety with dramatic outcomes. Both are good but rather different sports in my opinion.

He knew exactly where the ball was headed. IIRC, that keeper is "famous" for making saves like that in games. I believe he's made saves like that more than once. I'm drawing a blank on his name right now, but he is/was on the Colombian national team.

As a couple of other people have stated, it definitely curved around the wall to get to where it hit the post.

OKAY.. I played 15 years of soccer, 3 years of high-school varsity soccer.

The ball DID curve. In fact, it curved drastically. With either foot, you can curve the ball both ways.. With my right foot, if I kick with the inside, I can curve the ball left. With my right foot, if I kick very very hard, instep with the outside of my foot (much much harder - takes tons of practice), I can kick the ball with a 'slice' and it will curve right.

This kick is like a golf slice... it's much easier to do in golf, though.

This guy kicked the ball perfectly with his left outside of his foot - that's why the ball curved left. It was a very smart move considering the goalie (the best part of the defense) planned on a left-footed right-curved kick around the wall. It takes guts to use a direct kick on a shot like this. WOW.

Being a goalkeeper myself, I don't know if I can say that he was planning on any certain outcome before the kick was taken. Free kicks from the middle of the field are generally tough to defend because the shooter can go either left or right around the wall. However, after the kick, it seemed like the keeper thought that the shot was going wide and gave up on it.

It appears to be an international match between Brazil and France(?) and if I'm correct in assuming that it is Brazil, the shooter (#6) is Roberto Carlos. He's extremely deadly in free kick situations because of the way he can bend the ball, and I would even say that he has the best left footed shot in the world. Very exciting player to watch both on defense and in free kick situations. btw, brxndxn is right.....goalkeepers are the best part of the defense

Soccer requires very hight level of teamwork. The captain is very important. Unlike football or basket ball, all players in a soccer game don't have much communications from their coach, they're pretty much on their own for 45min. Also, only 2 players can be replaced for each game.

I remember that goalie, he is NUTS, only playd once in the world cup I think. He often runs in the frontline and tries to score goals, thats why they lost so many times, because the goalie was missing. But definetly the most interesting soccer player ever

I think Imdmn04 was talking about the second video with the kick around the wall, not the first one. In the first one it's pretty obvious the goalie saw exactly where the ball was going and he decided to pull a little stunt. In the second one you can see the goalie doesn't even dive because he thinks the ball is going to go wide.
