Some help with Outlook 2010?

I try to setup my outlook email account in Microsoft Outlook 2010. I can't, but however I have no problem setting up Gmail account in outlook 2010. What is Microsoft doing? support the competitor instead their own?

Is there any work around so my outlook.com email will work in outlook 2010?

Used to, for MAPI protocol, but they have switched to IMAP and that pretty much works for all modern email clients

Nope IMAP also requires the Hotmail connector in 10, however later versions do not. I'm using Office 2010 Pro Plus right now because of a compatibility issue with my stand alone installers and Office 2013 pro plus and I have to install the Hotmail connector to access outlook mail. 2013 has no problem setting it up nor do free clients like Mozilla thunderbird so it's hard to understand why MS crippled outlook 2010 with the connector.
