They took one life and threw their lives away all because they wanted to pick on someone....

Sounds like some young punks who just couldn't swallow their pride or egos and just kept spurring on trouble (driving slowly by his house, blaring a car stereo). They should have gotten a clue as to how things work in this world before but now they'll learn the really hard way.

What kind of example is this?? Chris Stano, who did nothing wrong, except NOT stopping them. And still did the right thing, provided key testimony, is getting screwed over.. now that just plain sucks for him. And it sure doesnt promote what he did as right (testifying, not not stopping the others.) As for the boys that actually struck a man in the head w/ a baseball bat, i don't feel sorry for them...They let a small, simple, childish feud get outta hand, and they over reacted.... thats their own fault for losing control... I personally could never hit anybody, as hard as i could in the head w/ a baseball bat, unless it was in fear of my life or somebody else's.. but not out of anger.... I am sorry that these boys' future is ruined, and that they're gon get raped, but i dont see any other way of punishing them while still showing that MURDER will not be tolerated.... they cant just let em off easy, cause regardless of age, or whats going to happen to their future, they did commit murder.. and it was out of anger and hate, not fear and self-defense... those type of people are the cause of MOST of the problems in this wolrd...

But i sure feel sorry for Chris Stano, man.... id be pissed at the world if i were him probably.. he's all alone... he turned against his friends (the right thing to do in this case), so he lost them.. and the city still screwed him over.. he should have gotten something positive out of testifying, but didnt... that really sucks..

edit: apparently chris stano did make some kind of deal, so good for him....

The "good" of the convicted? Who friggin CARES? As for the good of society; "society" won't have to worry about the punks clubbing anybody to death for a while.

For a while is my point. And what social graces will they acquire in ten years of adult prison.

Your friends got what they deserved. Sounds like out of control punks... No respect for anything.

<< The defendants, who had been free on bail, were cool during jury deliberations Friday. Jeremy Cain paced the floor talking on a cell phone. Both brothers necked with their girlfriends. >>

That's nice. The world is a better place.

What the hell is wrong with your head, man? If you've got some punks beating the life out of you and one of them can do something to stop it, are you going to say: "It's okay... Don't stop them... I'm sure you're a nice guy...."

He's as guilty as the rest...

Nothing worse than they apparently learned so far in life. Social graces? WTF? They BEAT a man to death with baseball bats and you're worried about social graces?

I suppose they should all get a fine and some probation, maybe force them to skip the prom...that'll teach 'em

Yeah and I knew Jimmy very well too. He always told me I could have a job working for him if I wanted to. He can never have his life back. They can eventually. It sucks for both sides.

Jimmy was taken to the hospital. He died the next day. Greg Allen was Jimmy's stepson. The one who the real feud was with.

I was using it in it's ironic context and certainly not in an effort to wound.

Greg Allen is the dead guy's step son. He was the one they were fighting/feuding with, but not the one they actually clubbed.

Promotion of "what he did right" isn't necessarily the law's objective in each situation - sentences are often handed down for deterrence reasons (for example, this case might send a message so that other kids won't even hang around when sh*t like this goes down, or would immediately tell and get help). I think its safe to say that Stano wasn't exactly held in his seat with a gun - he was part of this.

...and I'm sure they got him on a conspiracy charge. It's Criminal law's almost fail-safe tool to convict those who do not actually commit the offense. All that's needed to prove conspiracy, is some evidence that they he shared the purpose to confront/taunt/get involved on some level with the owner. It circumvents the traditional need to require a "mens rea" or intent of mind with respect to the offense.....

I'm taking criminal law right now, and every day I grow more and more shocked at how confused criminal law is - there is vehement debate about the very foundations of liability, and yet we are throwing people in jail for life in the mean time. But then again, the relative confusion criminal law harbors, as compared to, lets say contract law, just goes to show that its pretty much impossible to satisfactorily codify morality.

my two cents....

would you rather go to jail for 10 years or get beaten to death with an aluminum bat?

I'm sorry that you that the people you ate lunch with are going to jail. But I don't feel sorry for them because they got what they deserved. You don't beat a man to death with aluminum bats and expect to get probation especially when your 17, because they will always likely charge you as an adult.

i see where you're coming from, but you have to look at it where I'm coming from.. ok, legally he is as guilty as the rest, but not technically.. in other words, if he wasnt there, the murder still would have happened.. if the other two boys were not there, the murder would not have happened.... he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.. and that is why i dont feel he should be given the same sentence as the rest of the boys...

he's not being accused for something he DID do, hes being accused for something he DIDNT do, which just plain sucks.... anyways, i do feel he deserves punishment but not the same as the boys who actually committed the murder.... and he's not from what i can tell, so thats good...

just because you dont agree with what i said you dont have to say things like "what the hell is wrong with your head, man?" You can disagree and say so as much as you like, but you dont need to go and criticize me... you crticized my method of reasoning before you even knew what it was.... pointing out faults and errors is also fine, but you dont need to criticize me, you dont even know me....

BLAHBALHBLAHBLAHBLAHCOMPASSIONCOMPASSIONBLAHBLAHCOMPASSIONBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH.

They are killers and they deserve all of what they got. The part that made me the sickest was they were making out with their girlfriends during jury deliberation. Those girls must be pretty damn trashy to be all up in the pants of some killers.

but at least you should make an effort. if your friends would turn on you if you tried to stop them, then they aren't friends at all.

Your post didn't lend itself to being easily seen as sarcasm. Rather, it seemed you were upset they were going to go to jail for as long a term as was handed down by the judge.

My response is, basically, tough.

lotta good points there, thanks for that.. I wasnt aware that Chris Stano was involved in the planning of taunting, nor involved w/ the feud overall w/ Hill...I had just assumed that he was friends with these other boys, and just happened to be hangin out with them when they decided to drive by this guy's house again and taunt him... and instead it turned ugly... but you have a lotta good things to say... so thanks for the two cents...
