Wut?

No offense OP because I include myself in my next statement.

Typical Liberal move waaaaay over thinking something minor.
If Joe Rogan wants to endorse Bernie who cares. Bernie’s job is not to fawn over an endorsement that is poisonous.

We get it - typical woke liberal cancel culture rationale of "SOMEONE is saying SOMETHING that I DISAGREE WITH! Cancel them! Protest the platform! Silence anything that disagrees with me regardless of if it is factual or not!"

No, I'm saying that facts matter, and sometimes that means painting an unflattering picture of one side (in this case, the modern American right). Rogan shouldn't have had Jones on, for example, because Jones lies constantly, overtly and in ways that have put lives at risk. Treating his views as equally valid as those of Bernie Sanders (or many other Rogan guests) is ridiculous, because Sanders at least adheres to basic concepts of honesty and accountability.

The news is that the LGBTBBQ community wants Bernie to disavow Joe's "endorsement"... which really wasn't an endorsement.

Are you saying that the "LGBTBBQ" community is not allowed to have this opinion?

Where the hell am I suggesting that? How far up there do you have to be to suggest something so asinine ?

I'm in full support of giving people the ability (left and right) to look retarded in public.

This is basically you right now - suggesting things that are never stated in order to try to paint your own pictures.

Thank you for proving my earlier post correct.

Graduating from an ivy league school doesn't make you honest, or qualified to speak with authority on every subject.

I call Shapiro and his kind intellectual charlatans because they dress ignorance and lies in the trappings of intellectualism. Shapiro sounds wise only if you've never seriously investigated what he's saying. He takes things out of context, distorts and makes basic factual errors; he'll directly contradict himself without a trace of irony. It's not clear to what degree he's purposefully misleading people versus simply being ignorant, but he certainly hopes you're not insightful enough to call him out on his bullshit.

I think it'd be more honest just to say you disagree with him ideologically. That'd be a lot more respectful than calling a person with an obviously well-developed intellect an intellectual charlatan.

One doesn't have to agree with democrats to be an intellectual.

Unless you think the person is question is dishonest. Then shouldn't you call them dishonest?

One can be smart and a charlatan at the same time.

Right, no one said they did.

Yeah whatever about the thread title, Bernie got Rogan's endrosement, that says more about Rogan than Bernie, who has been a known quantity for ages at this point.

I'd like to draw attention away from "Cancel Culture" and "15 minutes of hate" to the Twitter culture of the modern day, where anyone kind find some pants on head retard and use them to paint the opposition as some monolithic nuckle dragging idiots.

"Joe Rogan endorses Bernie, most people don't give a shit, 15,000 Twitter users miscarry" who gives a fuck on a planet with 7 billion people and a country with 320 million people I could find 15,000 people to fuck a rusty cheese grater, it means nothing. It's not enough to carry a story.

Like you I think he is ordinary racist, sexist, homophobic. He's no paragon of liberal virtue -- quite far from it. But he's not representing himself as that, and those things don't nullify the positive values he has which align with Bernie. It's a damn shame if we can't appreciate that. And it shouldn't stop us from calling out where Joe is racist, sexist, homophobic. It enhances those call-outs because someone who receives criticism from someone they recognize still values and respects them is much more likely to receive that feedback in a way which helps them challenge themselves. Moreover, it's just a more realistic standard to expect from ourselves and our neighbors.
I see a guy that is what used to be called a Head, somebody cut off from his feelings and way way way up in his head, that is to say completely stoned. An interesting term that, maybe like having rocks in your head. Looks like sleepwalking to me, a mind without emotional feed back. Another great term that hits the spot, I think: Far Out!

No, because an intellectual charlatan is exactly what Shapiro is. He purposefully uses a veneer of perceived intelligence to both mask his own ignorance and deceive gullible people. There are people I disagree with ideologically who I at least appreciate for their directness and honesty; Shapiro has neither of those traits. Until he does, he deserves no respect.

I'm constantly wobbling between the centre-left and the actually-left left. I'm a wishy-washy liberal insofar as I don't want to take sides between them (the unfortunate truth is I agree with the negative things each say about the other, but...then what?)

It just seems to me that many centrists are constantly looking to pick fights with the left, almost as if they hate the left more than they do the right.

The behavior of the Lib Dems here is a case in point, and the snipes at Sanders from Clinton and some of her fans is another. Can you not just concentrate on the real threat right now?

The centrists aren't the ones driving this particular bus. Right-wing media is.

The problem here seems to be you don't understand the word charlatan or how it is being used here. You seem to think people are using it to say Shapiro isn't really smart, that he is just faking it. That is not what is being said. People are saying he is a smart, lying sack of shit.

The literal definition of a charlatan is someone falsely claiming to have special knowledge, so I would say it's a mixture of both. He doesn't know as much as he claims and he's using what intelligence he has to both cover that up and fool people into supporting him. Basically, instead of using his education to become genuinely well-informed and improve the world, he's using it as a weapon to pad his ego and bank account at the expense of suckers.

Yes but the point is that nobody is saying he isn't educated.

Specifically that one group, definitely not "the community". You can tell he's disingenuous because he's mocking us every time he references us.
