One adorable Dachshund is on a mission to lose a whopping 40 lbs, relinquishing his title as world's fattest wiener dog.
Obie, who currently weighs a staggering 77 lbs, was rescued by Portland resident, Nora Vanatta, after he was almost fed to death by his previous owners, reports Oregon Live.​

nope. some dogs will eat and eat and eat. with dogs they see food they will eat until its gone. they don't understand why that is not a good thing.

I have a pug, who eats like he has tapeworm. He's be in the same boat as this poor little guy. I have to limit is intake as much as possible, and I give him celery as a snack.

When owners do this, it angers me. Dogs, not unlike children, must be fed appropriately.

Show your love through exercise, discipline and affection. Showing through food does not translate love for dogs.

I don't know how you do it. There's a special place in my heart for rescuers.

I get so angry at breeders, the abuse factor is unreal. (Especially females.) Frankly, it tears me up to read what you do for their last year or so... and the fact that they hide their food only shows their trauma.

I've never seen such a fat animal with so much speed and stealth. His name was oreo.

when i lived on my farm i had 2 (though there was anywhere from 2-10) cats that lived in my barn. i would place food and water out but they never eat teh food.

i would see them eating mice that tried to get the food though. they are great hunters when allowed to hunt.

Why do they need a donation to help? Seems he would be cheaper to feed than other dogs, since you'd feed him less.

We had a golden retriever who was quite obese. We didn't overfeed her; she was the master of stealing food. We'd be bringing in bags of groceries from the car, and "did you leave the bag of bread in the car?" "I thought I brought bread in, I don't remember though." <check car.> "Darn it, we must have left the bread at the grocery store." Meanwhile, the dog stole not one, but two loaves of bread and consumed them completely before we figured out what was going on. ANY food that was unattended for 10 seconds - consider it gone.
