Gardening has been extremely productive this year. Here are some pics for those who are interested. Enjoy:

Newly harvested radishes: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/LFcYU1OCk1SRtYB5a1FPqLOKdHluzwjWXfcWhxT67mw?feat=directlink

Cucumbers and trellis. We started with 6 cucumber plants. They were growing out of control and I read that cucumbers can be staked vertically. They are somewhat resistant to vertical staking and prefer to sprawl horizontally. With enough coaxing and careful hanging, you can train them to latch on and grow vertically. Great space saver in the garden. Actually, we underestimated the weight of the cucumber vines (we get 3-6 cucumbers a week) and needed the reinforce the trellis with additional line and anchors:

Eggplants. All of the plants are just starting to grow at least 1 small to medium sized eggplant. All the plants are flowering and the bees are busy with this section of the garden.

Zucchini plants have become enormous and are starting to deliver 1-2 veggies a week. Many flowers are present and we think production will ramp up.

Blackerberry: 2 blackberry bushes were planted. We got them for 8 bucks each at Lowes. I dont think we will get anything meaningful out of them this year though.

Mint plant that we potted. Apparently I hear that mint has a tendency to be invasive so we potted this one instead of planting in the garden

Broccolli Rape (aka Brocolli Raab, rapini ) We just did a harvest and cut the plants back. Going to see if we can get a second harvest out of the remaining or we can replant and get another harvest by the end of the season. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/prv1eLAx_11zNkKsgLqKZLOKdHluzwjWXfcWhxT67mw?feat=directlink

String beans. These are starting to grow tall and will need to be staked in the upcoming weeks

Strawberries:
First planting from seedlings, they have grown to nice sizes. We had to lay some netting down on them since the squirrels and birds are eating them.

And the best for last: Tomatoes! Arguably the best performer this year in the garden. We will have so many this year. We are growing 4 kinds: Early girl (1 plant) Roma (1 plant) Jetstars (6 plants) and San Marzano (7 plants)

Romas: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/GHegTASOejIdtnUxKSHVKrOKdHluzwjWXfcWhxT67mw?feat=directlink

This is pissing me off. All that time to create the thread. And now all the pics cant be seen. I even set the visibility to public. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR WTF. I wonder if the links themselves change when I change the album from private to public.

OK, links are being edited. From a top of the post down to the bottom basis. Will notify when done.

It says that you have no public albums, maybe it will take a short time for them to become public?

your zucchini plants don't look that big.

I grew bush variety Gold Rush and my one plant was massive. It was about 4 feet tall and about 6 feet in diameter. I have no pics unfortunately. I was harvesting 3 good sized zucchini per day off that plant.

I'll keep that variety in mind for next year. We just got our first few zucchinis of the season this past week. Maybe the plant hasn't reached full growth yet?

zucchinis need plenty of water and full sun. I used to water mine once in the morning (around 8 - 9 AM) and again around 5 - 6 PM. Water around the plant; not in the plant. This promotes good root expansion.

Also feed it once every 2 weeks with some Miracle Grow.

Gold Rush is a golden coloured hybrid zucchini that is resistant to most pests and diseases.

How does Gold Rush taste? I've never had yellow zucchini. Does it taste like the green ones?

more or less.

I haven't noticed much difference in varieties for taste. Most varieties are bred for growth/productivity and/or pest/disease management.

Just don't let them get too big. Big ones sap the energy of the plant.
