Some Questions about this motherboard

I will be receiving my ASUS A8N-E tomorrow with 3700 san diego. From what I've read in other posts, the mobo does not identify this processor properly. For it to properly identify the sandiego, I'd need to flash to the latest bios version. This is where the problems begin, how on earth do I do this safely, and without corrupting/breaking anything. I also understand that some revisions of this board are fine without bios upgrades. Which revision is? How do I find out which revision I have.

If you startup the PC and it is identified as a 3700, then you are fine. If it identifies as something else, go the the Asus site, and follow the instructions to update the BIOS.

The revision should be stamped on the board itself above the PCI slots. Download Winflash utility for safely flashing the BIOS.

Or D/L from ASUS website if they have an online BIOS update like MSI.

I checked all over the asus site, it seems like their updates can be done thru windows only. This cant be, I must be missing something. Also, does anybody have a clue how to disable or configure the nvidia firewall built in on the mobo so it doesnt cause BSOD so often and corrupt files? I can frankly do without it.

Well, ive downloaded the bin file from the asus site, but theres no readme or manual. what next?

sry haven't heard of awdflash, ezflash should be, well, easy though. How'd you get the manual if you're not getting the board till tomorrow? From the website?

I also need to figure out how to safely get rid of the stupid nvidia forceware firewall. I hear its more trouble than protection. Is it enabled by default?

Cool. As long as you find a flashing program that is both safe and comfortable for you to use, go for it. I just use Winflash because it was the first one I used and has served me well. Never had any problems with it. Good luck with your new board.

No idea about the firewall. If you find out, let me know. My first 2 XP installs were crippled as a result of the bloody thing, and the one I got now has something funny with it as well.
