I have a package that is scheduled to arrive today delivered by UPS Ground. The tracking indicates that it arrived in my city at 4:34 am but there's no "Out for Delivery" message that you usually see in the early morning before your scheduled delivery date. Nevertheless, the status still says "In Transit - On Time" with a scheduled delivery date of today. I've never seen the status page like this. Should I be able to get my package today (i.e. maybe they forgot the scan it when it went in the delivery truck)??

Also, my package requires a signature, which is always a huge PITA for me since I'm at work (though I took off part of today to stay home). If in case the package doesn't get delivered until later, can I just simply leave a signed note with my name to tell the UPS driver to leave the package here? Will that work as an alternative?

Thanks.

Why don't you just pick it up at UPS at your convenience?

That's a good point but as a recent college graduate I don't yet have a car and the nearest UPS store is over 7 miles away.

Has the UPS truck driven by yet today? If not, it might still be on its way.. Tracking isn't always perfect.

UPS ground is so far from where I live, I HATE going there to pick up packages.

I've seen this too, but 4AM might be too late to get out today??

With no out for delivery scan it either missed a scan on the preload or didn't make it on the package car. In the latter case it should have an exception scan but as it does not I would hope that it actually made it out for delivery.

As for the signed note no, that won't work. As it is a sig required it's most likely the shippers request which means they have to get a signature and a piece of paper won't work. There are times when you can sign the delivery notice and get it left the next day but that is rare and again, is up to the shipper. There are also instances where an area has had some number of claims for missing packages. In these areas even a DR packages (driver release, means it can be left at your door and is a majority of the packages they carry) will need a sig to protect UPS from further losses. These places are not common and are usually the kind of places you would expect it not to be safe to leave a package.

I hope you get it today. I would not bother calling the help desk at this point, all they can do is look at the tracking info as they are not local and without any scan they have as much info as you.

Many thanks for the advice guys...much appreciated.

It does make sense that the package might be delayed since I'm on the east coast but I got a separate package from UPS yesterday which was shipped 2nd day air and was on-time.

Regarding the exception scan, I didn't get that and nothing like that shows on the tracking page...

Either way, I'm not too worried now. If it's late it will just be a hassle for me to pick it up. Just crossing finger that it didn't get lost in the off-chance.

I hear they are going to mail you a notice if you aren't home and they can't get a signature in the near future instead of leaving a notice at your door that they have been by. I guess it will have a number to call to make arrangements for a new delivery.
