as a freshman in college, i see that everyone has a laptop, but i noticed that most of the people ive talked to dont even take it out of their dorms. why not just go with a desktop?
Hahaha, I agree. I think alot of people or maybe their parents are convinced that a laptop is the answer to all problems and is necessary. Even worse, colleges that mandate that you buy their crappy laptops. Or even more worse, young kids in elementary school, or hell the laptop for every child crap, but that's another story. When most of the kids just use IM, Facebook, and Myspace all class period on their oh so helpful laptops, which are totally unnecessary in just about every class (yeah, I need my laptop in math).

I absolutely never needed a laptop in college. Obviously, there is tons of computer labs for doing what the class requires. Sure, a lot of people want one instead of a desktop, and that is fine as they are great for some people who need that functionality, but it doesn't magically solve any problem. I actually just hate the keyboards and the trackpads.

College isn't overrated. It removes a future glass celling and helps you network at the same time.

Since this forum is filled with 16-24 year olds, of course there will be overwhelming support for college. It's self-serving.

How soon we forget that there is a recent generation of people who are not all that old (late 30's to early 40's) who did not even have the option of a laptop in college. Has learning (and teaching) in college changed so much since the early '90's that a laptop in now necessary rather than optional?

When I started law school, there were MAYBE three laptops in the whole school. Last time I sat in a class (which was probably 5 years ago) I would say that 95% of the students had laptops. I KNOW that teaching in law school has not changed (partially because my school still has a lot of the same profs who taught me )

Conflict is a part of life. You're never going to get around that fact. As long as you have something that someone else wants, there will be conflict.

And as long as the Jews are around to blame it on.

First Person Shooters - good ones are good but it seems like that's all there is on the market any more

Sports - Maybe it's just me, never been much of a sports fan

Capitalism as government - there's a reason capitalist/socialist countries are usually ranked better on standards of living over capitalist/capitalist countries

Meat - My parents are vegetarians but I am not and will never be but eating a varied diet opens your eyes. A diet of all meat misses the subtleties and flavour that are inherent in real cooking. It's not all "me man, me strong, me eat meat!".

Religion - enough said

The movie "lost in translation", marriage, being out of college, supernatural things, wacky health fads like "detoxifying", "go team go" style politics, government, television, mass produced beer, the idea of loving your job, exercise.
