Agreed. The PR system isn't perfect, but AMD has had to do something and thats why I choose to support it.

Well for one, clock speed increases, secondly, core enhancements are taken into account (think L2 Cache of BArton, think Int. Memory Controller of CH).

ok, i officially give up. you just want to debate the practicalities of the pr system. all i said was that i'm curious about what the speeds of the upcoming hammer chips will be, and all i get in return is a bunch of amd zealot babblespeak.

i'm happy that you love the pr, and i belive you'll embrace whatever the amd marketing people shell out.

but i don't buy that "4000+" tells more of the story than (for example) "2400mhz, 4000+", nor do i believe that you aren't curious as well. i'm also not buying that you don't care whatsoever about mhz.

so, i give up.

Sid has a valid point. to put it in car terms, it's good to know what HP and torque the engine are rated at. even tho by itself those numbers are useless it is still nice to know.

obviously there are other factors a 4000 lb 200 hp car won't perform the same as a 2000 lb 200 hp car but the hp rating is still nice to know. where i'm comparing hp to mhz.
