ok...tried to do some benchies but running into weird issues. Could be software related. I cannot bench 3dmark05 when running 3d settings....everything is fine but the minute i begin 3dmark05 (and i mean by double clicking on the icon) the screen gets all corrupted. I can however play WoW perfectly with no corruption and demo fear with no corruption or artifacts.

I did run 3dmark05 with just using the 2d performance and it ran fine (Score 9100). I have a 3800+ amd Dual Core overclocked to a 4200. So im sure i could have alot better score if i had a 4800+ going.

I played Fear with max settings at 1600x1200 (i have a dell 2405) and it never ran so smooth its amazing.

And ideas how to run 3dmark05 at 3d settings? And remember...its right when i click on the icon to load the program where everything goes bad. Im gonna run Aquamarks and see if i get the same issue.

Also....couldnt try the other beta drivers cuz it didnt recocognize my card. That normal?

Seems odd that it would need different drivers than a regular 256mb GTX. Doesn't the 512mb GTX have the same core/features as the 256mb version? So the only real difference a computer would notice between the two (besides the amount of available memory) would be the BIOS.

It's got an expensive cooler, it must suck! It might run hot! 3DMARK says it hates this card and the two will never run together ever! Rollo likes it.. it must suck! The included drivers suck and we know everyone uses those!

I did run 3dmark05 with just using the 2d performance and it ran fine (Score 9100).

LOL - bull$hit! A 430mhz stock gtx gets around 7900 in 3dmark, and he's telling me a 275mhz gtx (2d speeds) with the same 24 pipes gets 9100? Either he's lying, or the card actually runs a lot faster, but for some reason the drivers have issues with 3dmock (surprise, surprises... maybe they havent been optimized yet ).

That's just wishful thinking. While the faster memory will improve the score somewhat, it will not give you anything close to a 2700 point boost. On my old x800 I benched it using mem speeds of 700mhz, and then 950mhz, and it gave me about 200 more points. Also, I doubt the extra 256mb of mem is being used by 3dmark, although I'll have to check that later to confirm it.

My theory is that it was runing somewhere close to 550mhz or higher, and that's the score it gets. The reason why I'm thinking that is becasue 3dmark depends heavily on vertex shaders due to the high poly count in the scenes. Both the x1800xt and the gtx have 8 vertex shaders, but they're clocked higher on the x1800xt, so even if the gtx is faster in actual games, it might still be on par or even slower in 3dmark due to slower geometry processing, and because most games dont stress the vertex shaders as much.

Who cares about 3DMark unless you find enjoyment in running 3DMark with your $800 piece of hardware it isn't that important, the real issue is how well does it run games, how loud is it, how hot does it run etc.
